  1. I agree 100%, missw (as per usual). It bothers me that some people think J&J is the ONLY "classic" foreign film. I like looking at Oskar Werner and applaud the sauciness of a three-some back then . . . but otherwise find it really boring. And that scene where the girl smokes and prances like a choo-choo . . . I just don't get what's the big deal (maybe it's a guy thing, I dunno).
  2. Yup, something like that. When Borgnine did a sit-down with RO, he shared the anecdote about it. I think he said something about EM not liking the attention Borgnine received while they were on their honeymoon (or something like that).
  3. VERY nice to see foreign film offerings beyond just "Jules & Jim."
  4. <Did any of you actually SEE Ethel Merman on Broadway? What was your reaction? Cole Porter absolutely swore by her.> . . . while Ernest Borgnine probably swore AT her.
  5. <OTOH, they do have MOTHER, MAY I SLEEP WITH DANGER? which may be the greatest bad title ever!> That is, unless you make fair game of porn titles . . . which we probably shouldn't do if we want the thread to stay unlocked.
  6. . . . and for those of us who hold dear the Pythons' "Fish Slapping Dance"
  7. I'd never seen a photo of Jane's mom either. So . . . keeping with our collective "shallowness" (in a fun-spirited way) on some of these issues I'm with Dargo2 and others who think she looks more like her ol' man.
  8. <Further analysis revealed that the sounds were herrings farting. > Very Python-esque. I can just see Terry Gilliam drawing that.
  9. I once had a friend who found out I was very big on "Double Indemnity," so he recommended "Gun Crazy." This was a few years ago and I don't think I even finished watching it. I never went back and asked him how he could put both films in the same sentence. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right?
  10. LOL, sfp . . . there's a reason that I don't have Lifetime programmed into my "fave channel" lineup.
  11. <And of course no matter who plays Auntie Mame, the role will always belong to Rosalind Russell, as will the role of Ruth in Wonderful Town.> Might I add? . . . as well as the role of Sylvia Fowler in "The Women" (1939).
  12. I agree with you about Elizabeth Montgomery, darkb. I recall a made-for-TV biopic she did about Lizzie Borden. It was quite entertaining -- and a very different side than what we saw in "Bewitched!"
  13. As for Jane Fonda's "bombshell" status, I'll defer to the guys among us. What I very much appreciate is her performance in "They Shoot Horses Don't They?" (1969)
  14. I'd never heard of THAT! How could that be? What a grovin' song and video! Thanks for sharing.
  15. Sorry but these are fairly "new:" {font:Times New Roman}"The Maiden Heist" (2008){font} {font:Times New Roman}"Nine Queens" (2000){font} {font:Times New Roman}"The Good Thief" (2003){font} {font:Times New Roman} {font}
  16. Whoa! I've read Truman Capote's book, in addition to seeing the film half a dozen times. Few stories have affected me so deeply. Extra creepy because I've lived in Tallahassee and now can just imagine the main streets where they might have travelled.
  17. Oh, well in that vein, skim, there's always "Rasputin the Mad Monk" (1966)!
  18. Francais (French) I recommend it SUPER highly. It's a great film!
  19. You just reminded me, ValX . . . "The Magdalene Sisters" (2002) has some mighty mean nuns and a VERY bad priest.
  20. Ironically, I looked on amazon.com today for Julie Harris' performance in "The Glass Menagerie." No doing. Was that a made-for-TV program a few decades back?? I recall being VERY impressed by it.
  21. Yeah, but they have like, what . . . 1,000 words for "snow?" Edited by: dpompper on Dec 3, 2012 9:12 PM
  22. Well, that's for certain slay. I'm a female, but still I noticed NW's small waist and over the years have considered how terribly uncomfortable that girdle must have been. You can see the "**** lines" at the bottom, too.
  23. In the early '90s, TCM introduced me to The Marx Brothers. It was either Christmas or New Year's Eve or somewhere in between. I really enjoyed it. I'd like to see that return.
  24. Aw, thanks, Eugenia. Do you recall seeing it, too??
  25. If yer gonna dream, DREAM BIG! (I love it and would love to be invited among your 200 guests, sansfin!)
