I love her line in "It's a Wonderful Life" (1946): "I put this on when I don't care what I look like." (or something like that)
-
I still LOVE that, RM. I don't have any children to name "Sinbag," but I seem to collect barn cats. I give them names in the car en route to the vet for snipping (don't understand why they don't appreciate my efforts). I've been up and down the alphabet over the years coming up with names. Next one will be "Sinbag," for sure.

Yes, it is, bundie.

I got it, Dargo2 (and thought it funny).

You know, jcp, I just might see it again in the theater, too. As for the one use of "f," it's subtle as in there but barely audible. To whomever it was who is concerned for their children's welfare if they hear this word in "Lincoln," I'd wager there's plenty of other things to worry about that will have a greater impact on your children in their formative years.

I am known to have techno-joy from time to time. I just think Facebook appeals to . . . people who are not like me. -
Me, too, Bild. I'd like to see him play some more "regular people" roles in addition to the occasional "eccentric."

I couldn't agree more, Mythoughts!!! This thread has reminded me that I've never finished my "Combat!" collection. I'd stopped at Season 3 . . . so I await Seasons 4 and 5. True joy en route. I also watched it with my dad. No girlie shows for me! . . . and "Jonny Quest" was my favorite cartoon!

I love it, too. So MUCH to love about Jane Eyre (1944). That's why it's part of my DVD library. Joan Fontaine, Agnes Moorehead, the beautiful Elizabeth Taylor as a a child, Peggy Ann Garner . . . the sets, gowns, lighting, music . . . Henry Daniell is forever the evil Mr. Brocklehurst in every film (to me). For all of our "Dogs" thread contributors, how about those two beautiful dogs in the film (not sure of the breed)?! Those who got to "know" Orson Welles' work only later in his career missed out on how magnetic and attractive (dare I say "studly?") he was. In addition to being brilliant . . . I'm somewhat groovin' to Michael Fassbender's Rochester in "Jane Eyre" (2011). . . but no one has played the role like Orson Welles. "Jane . . . JANE!. . . "

< We do not really care about some dead character we never saw; we care about her and Brick (Paul Newman). > Can't say that I agree entirely with you here, TB. Who Skipper was and what he meant to Brick is VERY important. I watched "Cat" on DVD last week and was thinking about the Skipper character and how significant off-screen characters can be. If Skipper DID actually appear on screen in this 1958 film, which actor would have been best? Opinions?

Interesting that Johnny Depp in a context of "personality vs. performance" has not been raised. It seems to me that he and/or his people strategically strive to meld the two.

I appreciate "sinbag" in all its forms!

I'm with you on this one, too, finance. But then again, it could have something to do with my not liking you-know-who.
-
While I don't know for certain, I suspect $ had something to do with it, too.

"Harry and Tonto" is wonderful. I have it on DVD (purchased several years ago, now) and don't watch it regularly because it makes me cry . . . no, sob. I'm glad I have it to watch whenever I want to, though.

When I went to see "Lincoln" the other day, among the MANY trailers was one for "Gangster Squad." It has a noir look to it. (I'll watch when the DVD is released . . . if for nothing than to see the lovely Ryan Gosling.) At first I thought it might be a sequel to "LA Confidential" (1997) because the trailer indicated it's about mobster Mickey Cohen -- but I don't think so. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1321870/ -
Have there been any FEMALE guest hosts that pass muster? Anyone? (And I ain't talking about the now-dubbed Barrymoratorium!)

I once wanted "Dragonwyk" (1946) and the only place I could get it was as part of a box set. The other two films (can't remember the titles offhand) didn't appeal to me, so I mailed them to a good friend in another state. I explained the backstory via phone to my friend -- who later exclaimed, "I wanted Dragonwyk" too!"

Obviously, the half-buried leper couldn't hear the hero say "excuse me" and with one eye covered was unable to read the backward subtitles. (a la "The Purple Rose of Cairo" 1985.)

I'm a frequent amazon marketplace shopper. When I can buy a DVD for $1 plus the $4 shipping, I feel like I get good deals all year long. (I steer clear of "previous rentals" though).

When I was a kid, I learned about leprosy from those "bible movies" (e.g., Ben-Hur) that I watched with my grandmother. It scared the bejesus out of me and I feared having my fingers and nose fall off! But then, as I've stated before, I was a weird kid.

<Foreign Legion movies brings to mind Beau Geste. Any version of that appeal to anybody?> Nope. But it has nothing to do with the desert. Just am not a Gary Cooper fan and have yet to discover what the attraction is for so many fans.
