Yes, I'd like to see it . . . inching closer to selling my soul to Comcast to rent their DVR capability. . .

<I think Flynn could have been a great Bond. He had it all in his prime: charm, good looks, intelligence and athletic credibility.>
Oh yeah! And he had that "make any girl wanna take off her clothes without conversation eyes."

Hmmm, come to think of it . . . Lonesome had that animalistic "let's get down and dirty" kinda quality that I have been known to admire from up close . . .

I concur, Andy (except for the proposed dramatic ending for SITG). You crystallized a point I made early on in this thread. I discovered "Face in the Crowd" in my 30s; rather late since I became a classic film lover in my single digits. So, if it airs frequently during prime time, at least someone will see it for the first time and appreciate it the way many of us do.
Here's another bright side. If it's shown during "The Essentials" and we don't want to see it AGAIN, we have a good reason for skipping Drew.

I'm enjoying this thread very much.
I confess that I've not seen all of the JB films in their entirety, but have seen most in parts. I couldn't resist searching YouTube to refresh my memory of Sir Tom Jones' rendition of theme "Thunderball." Cool visuals at the 2012 BAFTA awards here, too.

<The Austin Lounge Lizards have a great song about Big Tex having a love affair. Perhaps they should write a new verse now.>
As in Blue Oyster Cult's "I'm burnin', I'm burnin', I'm burnin' for you . . . "

I have a friend who buys DVDs in dollar stores. I am only guessing here, but I think it's a safe assumption that these are films now in the public domain. (Sorry, no titles come to mind.)

Love Albert Finney . . . but you know he's not American, right?
Now for the green-eyed brunette . . . Jeannette MacDonald could play witty, coy and charming very well, but I'm not sure of her eye or hair color. Now you could always go with Bette Davis (despite blue eyes). She could play anything you wanted.

Aw, man, I didn't tune in last night. Thursday night, a 5 or 6-day champion was unseated and I didn't tune in last night to see how the "new winner" fared. Bummer.

Definitely a "hot topic!"
I have a friend who's written about these large "monuments" and other roadside attractions, so I have a great appreciation for them and am sad when they "die."

When I saw it on the calendar, I thought: "Maybe there's one or two people out there who haven't yet seen it who'll tune in. So, that will be a good thing."
Today my Halloween present to myself arrived from amazon.com . . . so, continuing my own "fright fest" with Roman Polanski's "The Fearless Vampire Killers" (1967). I haven't seen it for many, many years. Then after that, maybe "The Innocents" (1961).

Fair Use is neither a "defense" nor a "right." It is the name of a standard with FOUR parts that the courts use in determining whether or not someone is liable for publishing part or all of something that is copyrighted by someone else.

I think that's true, finance.

Last night watched "Dracula'' (1979) with Frank Langella. I opened a window for some air.

I'd wager that Curtiz didn't have (or didn't care to have) a publicist.
-
Even World News on ABC with Diane Sawyer did something with the "story." Slow news cycle.

Right on, Sepia.
Moreover, there could be no defamation claims given that she was a public figure and would have to prove actual malice (a stiff standard by any measure).

Ready to be pummeled with rotten tomatoes . . .
Never understood what the attraction was. Always thought she was kinda odd looking and entirely lacking in the talent department. Her roles were repeatedly weak feminine archetypes, so maybe I'll never know if she had more to give.

Interesting discussion going here . . . I saw "Johnny Belinda" when I was little and it had a strong impact on me. I found JW affecting in "Miracle in the Rain," another film I saw as a child (and still cannot watch without tears welling up). You've all inspired me to see more of her.

<You mean you can't do the Gomez vs. Herman choice?>
After significant libation, will it really matter?

<unfortunately the film is only available to be seen in UK online>
poop

Again, we agree.

I'm with you on this one, finance.

I take the $ I used to spend going to the movies every week and use it to buy DVDs of films I love. My library continues to grow and if I want to watch the same "essentials" back-go-back Saturday nights, I have only one programmer to blame: myself.

Great James Bond moments, lines, trivia, and such

When publicity focused on "who will be the next Bond" a few years' back, I was hoping that James Purefoy would have been selected.
While Daniel Craig has appeal, he seems to lack that certain something. He's a bit less sophisticated and a bit too thug-like for my taste (but don't get me wrong, he's still nice to look at).
James Purefoy is drop dead gorgeous, sophisticated, the action hero type, and has that certain thing going on behind his eyes that Sean Connery always brought to the Bond role.
My two cents . . .
