Were YOU also an 8 y/o(or close in age) in 1960?

The end is near....and nearer....and nearer......but it never seems to get here. :0 -

Yes, that's the way they worked it--try to fit the event to the prophecy, however ridiculous that exercise sometimes was. Nostradamus was quite popular on TV a while back, I think mostly on A&E and The History Channel, but it may have died down since then. -

I knew it was something close to Hitler, though I got the name wrong, which is how Nostradamus' followers worked it. Some people seem to gravitate to end of the world predictions, it's almost like a hobby. And as soon as one doesn't pan out, a year or two later there's another one coming down the pike. -

To take it semi-seriously, I think most people already know which words and stereo- types are offensive, though, as the example of the Redskins shows, there are some surprises.

191 "Hey, these p.j.'s come with 3-D glasses. That certainly makes sense." Insert tab A into slot B. Wonder what they mean by that.

Nostradamus got away with a lot based on ambiguity and close but a cigar. People would take his prophecies and shoehorn them into events even though the prophecies could be taken in a number of different ways. And if he came close, he was given the benefit of the doubt. I think there was one prophecy that mentioned a figure with the name of Hisler, which substituting a t for the s turns it into Hitler. Well......Putting the predictions aside, he was still a man of many accomplishments. -
I would think that Redskins would be more offensive than Braves or Chiefs, but there is a caveat. In a number of polls, American Indians, by a very large margin, do not find Redskin(s) offensive. Now I feeling better about rooting for them--Go Skins.

I'd guess there was another reason than lack of vertical movement. Something along the lines of the Golden Rule.

Hmmm. I wonder why there is not a team called The New England Honkies or The Chicago Whities? Maybe because of who the owners are. It's hard to consider the name Redskins as a compliment, at least today. It's certainly not the most important topic around, but it's funny that folks who are not Indians get to decide what is offensive to Indians. Speaking of that team from Washington, what a great comeback yesterday against Baltimore. Sweet.

I really didn't know either, but it is. They started putting their films on YT back in the Spring of 2011 and now there are hundreds of films available on YT. It will take a while to go through what is out there, but it's certainly a wonderful gift. I'll be watching some more when I can get some free time. Well all anyone can do is make recommendations and maybe give some brief reasons for them and let other people take it from there.

I didn't know they had their own channel. Solaris is available with subtitles. You can also change the color of them. When I first played it, they were in black, which is the same color as the bar across the bottom of the film, so half of the subtitle can't be deciphered. I changed it to yellow, problem solved.

That is early, at least for me, I never bought a DVD player because I just don't have the time to make it worthwhile, so I'll watch Moontide on YT. The print is good and the price is right. I've watched a little bit of it already. I had to chuckle at Claude Rains' big hat and glasses getup. Almost didn't recognize him.

I can stay up till 2 a.m. to see a movie, but not one that starts at 2 a.m. If I recorded movies I'd just have a large pile of unwatched movies so I don't bother with that anymore. I hope you will have better luck with yours. I enjoyed the scene early in the movie where Gabin is at the restaurant with his partner and the two women. One of them mentions they are going to be mermaids at the nightclub later on. Then somebody says they're really good as mermaids and Gabin says something like Yes, I can just imagine, IOW, I've seen it all before. Ho hum.

It sounds interesting. I've been watching a lot of movies on YouTube lately. I know it's not the optimal way to watch movies, but it's better than the alternative of not seeing them at all, and you can set your own schedule. Fortunately, both Moontide and Solaris are on YT in good visual condition. I'll have to watch them over the next few days. It wasn't so much the length of the original version of Solaris as the fact that it started late at night, but I managed to stay up till the end.

I got a kick out of Touchez Pas au Grisbi with Jean Gabin as the (relatively) suave old time crook who has seen it all before and knows the score and can still make it with the younger ladies. Of course he has a clueless partner who screws things up, as they usually do, and in the end he loses his stash of gold. That whole underworld way of life and culture is really brought to life in this pic. And there's also Jeannne Moreau with her long long ponytail. Tres chic. This would make a good double bill with Bob Le Flambeur. I also managed to make it through Solaris, but I missed part of the plot because the subtitles seemed so small. I was hoping they would place them at the bottom black edge of the widescreen, but they didn't, so it took a while to figure out what was going on. I'll have to see it again so I can get the full impact.

Just a late fact check. Jane Fonda did not turn over American POW's messages or confidences to their Viet Cong captors, as one poster has alleged. Also, the Viet Cong were a armed group that operated in South Vietnam, so it's not likely that our girl Jane would have met any on her visit to North Vietnam. http://www.snopes.com/military/fonda.asp Double Trouble. ]

187 Tout de suite ladies, let's move it along. I'm meeting Jean-Paul and Albert at Les Deux Magots and I don't want to be late. Let's hoof it.

No, that was a little before my time, so I never had the chance to take a bite o' Marie. I must have read it in some low rent movie gossip book. Perhaps it was her heavy consumption of alcohol that caused it.
