I always liked that quote too. Thank you for your comment.
I was watching Great Expectations tonight. I love the ending!
>Biddie: *One day, ol' Pip, you'll marry too*.
>
>Pip: *I don't think I shall, Biddie. Not now..*
>
>Biddie: *Dear Pip, do you still fret for her?*
>
>Pip; *I think of her, but that poor dream, Biddie, has all gone by... all gone by. (to himself) (I knew as I said these words, I secretly intended to visit the old house that evening..*

Veteran's Day
>*You see, Mr. Milton, in the Army I've had to be with men when they were stripped of everything in the way of property except what they carried around with them and inside them. I saw them being tested. Now some of them stood up to it and some didn't. But you got so you could tell which ones you could count on. I tell you this man Novak is okay. His 'collateral' is in his hands, in his heart and his guts. It's in his right as a citizen.*

Even OCD has developed a different perspective in the years. For instance, people working toward an advanced Educational degree are also obsessive, but in a way we determine is acceptable for it becomes a positive result, so it is not a disorder to our judgement. Yet the quest, however noble, may cause the obsessed goal-seeker to abandon relationships and create change in their personality.
An obsession or compulsion, if it doesn't create a debilitation in the person, is possibly a challenge to the person and not necessarily as serious as is suggested- particularly if there is still a network of friends for support. It maybe a case of just seeking a comfort moment, like a child comforting themselves by sucking their thumb or clinging to the blanket, or wearing a favorite tie. We all have our comfort ceremonies and practices.
At some point, there is growth, The one constant for anyone is change. The friend with the cell phone photo is in transition, moving from one place of comfort to another. She will grow tired of the photo looking, because nothing is changing. Stop the talking about her and keep caring TopBilled, and maybe you and your friends can be introducing her to nice guys, Especially nice ones that look like her favorite actor..

I was just thinking Wednesday, "I wonder what happened to Dargo?" and there you are!
welcome back.
I guessing DeMille was pulling out all the stops for he wanted big backing for The Ten Commandments .. It would be his last great production, so he did quite the campaigning for GSOE to prove he could bring in the numbers, and the awards. I bet he called in every favor. It sure seemed like an Oscar campaign to me.

That first line made me laugh, even though it was a horrible situation. Sandy doesn't care if the storm wins or not.
Marathons are not just about running, but logistics. Seeing the scope of damage and discombobulation, I think Bloomberg received some really bad advice, and he forced a knee-jerk poor decision. He reacted like a reptile, and not responding like a mature, thoughtful, compassionate man. It was about the dollars first. The City will need business, but it wasn't the best circumstance. I am relieved cooler heads prevailed.

Boy, Faiola, Sandy was NOT a lady, I agree..
Now, after the shock, comes the clean up. You just start again.
Like weather/natural disasters anywhere, you just stare at it until you can't take it anymore. You just cleaning what you can where you can.

h4. Variations on a Theme
I had posted a blog yesterday about the protrayal of Christ in the movies, and concluded that Jesus would look more like Omar Sharif with facial hair.. Max Von Sydow is a very gentle soul, but also very scandinavian looking.
It's interesting to me how often God isn't shown but through the effects of a burning bush or the He speaks through others (the young lad in Quo Vadis comes to mind).

Thanks for posting, Eugenia. I love that song too.

I have many friends with family in PA, and some of there areas have high wind and snow. It's such ugly weather.
That Crane, the one that blew over yesterday, came down in estimated 45mph gusts, and last night they were to pick up to 80mph. It was a microcosm of what NYC was dealing with Sandy. It held on, like the city.

Christmas Movie not about Christmas
in General Discussions
Posted
I have in my queue:
*Desk Set*
*The Apartment*
two movies that have Christmas festivities in the story, but it is more incidental to the atmosphere.
What are some of your favorite not necessarily Christmas movies?
