  10. CARMEL MYERS b. April 4, l899, in San Francisco, California d. November 9, 1980, in Los Angeles, California MINIATURE BAKED ALASKAS Carefully scoop the centers out of individual angel cakes and fill with any flavor of ice cream. Cover quickly with meringue and pop into the broiler for about three minutes. When lightly browned take out and serve immediately. Mini Bio: She was considered most notable for playing a beautiful vamp in silent films opposite such famous screen stars as Rudolph Valentino, Douglas Fairbanks and John Barrymore, before and during the 1920s. The daughter of a San Francisco rabbi, she became one of director D. W. Griffith?s favorite prot?g?s, playing good character parts, along with seductive roles. She successfully made her transition into talkies, however, her screen career stalled in the mid 1940s. In the 1950s, she resurfaced as a television talk-show hostess on ABC. She continued in television into the 1970s, occasionally acting in cameo roles. Married twice, she was the mother of novelist, Ralph Blum. Through her enduring career, she is credited with acting in over 80 films from 1915-1976. Her 2 dramatic guest appearances in television productions occurred in 1948, and 1974. She died from a heart attack at age 81, after which, her ashes were buried in the garden at Pickfair, home of Mary Pickford. Her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame is located at 1749 Vine Street.

  14. I agree with everything ya said LTL! I've always thought Rhett did the right thing by walkin' out (although I must admit I always get a bit misty when he leaves!). Throughout the entire movie it was a well known fact Scarlett was in love with Ashley. I wouldn't have respected Rhett if he had accepted Scarlett's apology either, LTL. Plus the fact both Scarlett and Rhett were such strong-minded individuals I don't think it was in the cards for them to ever have a harmonious marriage. More than likely if they had stayed together one of 'em would've ended up dead -- him chuckin' her down the stairs (again) or her flingin' somethin' at his head. I also share your feelings about Scarlett, LTL. She certainly was a piece of work, but she was a survivor (and quite the cold **** too ) but I loved her anyway. I read the original GWTW, but not the sequel. I just called my mom and she said she has a copy and she'll give it to me tomorrow. After I read it I'll be sure to let ya know if I liked it.
  15. I also just love "Great Expectations", Maperette! I've read the book more than once (I'm a big time Dickens fan) and the movie really lived up to the book, IMO. I just hate when a movie that is based on an excellent book doesn't do the book justice -- which is sadly the case most of the time.
  16. Thanks for playin' moviejoe! Not "Wuthering Heights" .... Clue#5: Two young people meet and become friends
