Another interesting fact -- Coop screen tested for and was offered the role of Rhett Butler in GWTW but turned it down.

Good point, ML. Jimmy Stewart was the real deal. After reading through the posts and giving it more thought I've decided on Stewart over Grant. As much as I love 'em both, Jimmy Stewart just had such a genuine endearing quality about him. One of my favorite movies of his is "Seventh Heaven" ('37) starring Simone Simon. This movie was released just one year after "After the Thin Man". For those of you who are Stewart fans and haven't seen this one you should really check it out!
Oh, and ML, you asked where Henry Fonda should sit at this round table......."under the salt" in my opinion *ducks from flying veggies and rocks*

****** Antar! Okay, even though just about everybody here already knows who my choice is I feel the need to say it anyway......COOP!!!!!!! Don't feel I need to go into the "why" on this one

-
ML ~ I just read through a few of your posts (and I totally agree with you btw) and I had to chuckle. You see my boys are on spring break and all week I've been saying things like: "Okay guys, you already argued about that this morning, do you need to go through it again??" or "YOU may not think it hurts his feelings when you call him a *insert word of choice* but it does so don't do it again!!" etc. etc. etc. *lol* Looks like I'm the peace-makin' mom at my house here and you are the one on the boards

Jennifer Jones??

*takes a bow*

harlowkeatongirl ~ 100.....WOW....amazing, huh? I haven't had time to watch TCM today, but by the end of the day I'll have just about all of today's movies on tape. Actually, with three sons on spring break it's easier to do it that way....then if one of 'em interrupts my movie I can just pause it instead of missing any!

****** Sounds good to me Mongo!! That sucker needs to be put to bed for sure.
Everybody now!
Kumbaya my lord, kumbaya
Kumbaya my lord, kumbaya

Oh lord, kumbaya........

As far as I know, ML, Fred appeared for the first and only time in blackface in the movie "Swing Time". He did it as a tribute to Bill Robinson (Bojangles Of Harlem).

orson4ever ~ Yes, FMC does show many films in letterbox. In response to e-mails they have added a "Letterbox" page to their site. Here you can see which movies are to be shown in letterbox format every month. On the "Letterbox" page it says: "Fox Movie Channel brings you 31 LETTERBOX films out of a total of 98 films broadcast in February ? that?s nearly 32%!".
As I've mentioned on here before, I recently added FMC to my channel line-up. I have found they air some great movies but the problem is every month they air the same movies over and over again. For example "Laura" and "Call Her Savage" are each being aired FIVE times in the month of March! That's just ridiculous considering all the FOX films they could be airing.
Oh, and also wish TCM would reopen it's merchandise store!

A cat?

****** That Paul Newman/Gandalf thing cracked me up guys. Hmmmm.....tryin' to remember Paul Newman's character's name without IMDb.....Gondorff??
Oh, and bggalaxy, I have a thing for the name Gandalf myself. Named my Maine **** cat Gandalf years ago. BEFORE the movies came out. He's a huge sucker....big as a dog (and acts like one too). He also has really cool long hair....the name really fits him!
LTL ~ Can you take me along to that dinner party with Nick and Nora? Sounds fabulous!!

-
LTL -- I totally agree with ya about "A Street Car Named Desire"! That scene you mentioned always leaves me breathless!! *sigh*

Tires can squeal on dirt or around corners at low speed, etc.
If you're a loser in a bar fight you will most likely end up being pushed so hard you will slide halfway down the bar.
Cars in high-speed chases can shift through more gears than they have.
Villains being chased will inevitably disregard all common sense and begin climbing up something?a staircase, a church tower, a mountain?thereby trapping themselves at the top.
Household pets can unerringly detect and react to the presence of ghosts, aliens or other nonhuman entities. Their warnings are invariably ignored.
Lawyers only work on one case at a time. They are never distracted by other cases, clients or causes.
In any situation where the hero is alone, surrounded by dozens of bad guys, they will always obligingly attack one at a time.
A woman can't run/flee more than 50 feet before falling flat on her face. Someone then has to go back and help her up, while the monster/villain/enemy gains ground.
Never mention your remaining time ("Three days and I'm outta here!") You will die before the end of that time (applies to prison, war, etc.)
Whenever the monster/villain is killed, he is never dead.
If you are involved in a car chase in a foreign or ethnic locale, a fruit cart will be overturned during the chase, and an angry peddler will run into the middle of the street to shake his fist at your departing vehicle.
Little girls who wear glasses always tell the truth. Little boys who wear glasses always lie.
No matter how hot or dry the day has been, the road will be wet, slick, and reflecting headlights after nightfall. This is most commonly seen in deserts and draught-stricken cities like Los Angeles.

Well hot damn! *lol* I knew FDR liked her -- I really wasn't sure if she was a favorite of the others or not! -
Now how the hell did that happen?? *lol*

Funny, she hasn't come in here to explain herself since you asked her about the old "Hedy Lamarr" handle. As Mongo said, if ya can't take the heat get out of the kitchen.....looks like she's hung up her apron

Oops! I just read ML's post in which she mentioned "The Great Lie". That one should've been on my list too!

Best first-viewed classic seen lately

"The Affairs of Anatol" ('21) starring Wallace Reid & Gloria Swanson. Patypancake suggested renting this one from Netflix and I'm so glad I did! It's a wonderful silent directed by Cecil B. DeMille.
Plot: A cheating husband finally comes to his senses after he realizes that he is about to loose his faithful wife.
