  1. ..+the result is a life filled with crises. .....Anymore, life does seem at times filled with crises, just one after another, after another after another.....
  2. ...it never was that "simple and innocent" even back then. No, but for a half hour we can pretend that it was that "simple and innocent" and isn't that comforting ! Who knows, maybe somewhere in Small Town America it was ! I guess we will never know. Thank You for reminding me his name was OTIS, how could I forget? Such a lovable character !
  3. I loved the episode where the town drunk, (can't remember his name), would let himself into the jail cell with the key hanging on the wall. What was even more comical was when Aunt Bee would bring him breakfast in the jail cell. If only life were that simple and innocent today !
  4. It is hard to believe you have a problem with your memory, it sounds like you are too hard on yourself ! Certainly, when it comes to remembering anything about Classic Movies, you do not have a problem, if anything, you have the sharpest and brightest mind of any of the posters on the board !!
  5. Not true, we had a gas furnace with a thermostat and still slept with the window open a bit because my Father insisted the fresh air was healthy. He was an Architect and knew what he spoke of. He always instited that most homes where 'Too Air Tight ' and not healthy, that is why we now have CO Detectors in all homes! Anyway, I was never too cold but I am sure the Gas Bills must have been high.
  6. Maybe that's why SLEEP APNEA has become soo common, lack of fresh air while sleeping....who knows..
  7. ....crack open a bedroom window... When we were little, my Dad used to insist we sleep with the window open about 2 or 3 inches during the winter to let in fresh air because it was" healthier " to sleep with the window open a bit. I do not recall ever feeling too cold. Of course this was at a time when Gas Bills were a lot lower then the are now. I think in this day and age the Gas Bills would be too high to sleep with a window cracked open and as well, it just seems our winters now seem soo much colder then they were when we were little. Anyway, that's were the term "crack open a bedroom window" came from....
  8. I wish FredC would put us out of our misery. I'm sure he knows who it is! :_|
  9. Yes I do watch The National and I am aware of the difference in the dollar and the same thing has happened to me ON LINE, I got less, a lot less through Paypal. As far as the bank, that is nothing new, it has something to do with their charges (which is nothing new). In order to get more in exchange at the bank, you have to change over a lot of money to offset the initial charge but the teller should have known that. Next time go to customer service at the bank where they should be able to explain it to you. Doesn't seem fair though does it! Still does not explain though why TCM charges Canadians almost twice as much for NOW PLAYING!
  10. misswonderly: I too DO NOT subscribe to Now Playing for the same reasons you give. Being Canadian as well, I resent the fact that we have to pay almost TWICE as much as our American counterparts which just does not same fair at all, as much as I would love to subscribe to Now Playing, it is the principal of the matter that I won"t.
  11. Yes of course Joan Blondell! I recognized the face but could not think of her name, soo frustrading.
  12. Of course Greta Garbo....not fast enough again, was watching TCM.
  13. How enchanting to see the very first Christmas Card ever! I must say, it is also one of the nicest Christmas Cards I have ever seen!
  14. Yes, it is VERY disappointing that there are not more Christmas Movies on TCM, after all, it is only ONCE a year! When you consider some of the movies they show over and over again all year round, like North by Northwest, From Here To Eternity, etc. etc., it is not too much to ask to show Christmas Movies just ONCE a year!
  15. Well I say Shirley Temple too! Someone else answered before I had a chance, you were too fast for me.. -twinkeee
  16. Marilyn as Jean Harlow??... UH, Not soo much! Otherwise, all the other pic's of her are quite stunning, have never seen them before. Thanks RM for the posting! - twinkeee
  17. I must say, my first guess too was Marilyn Monroe, but it seemed soo far fetched that I didn't want to post it. Then when I saw you posted MM and since you are never wrong, I knew I should have gone with my first instinct! Good for you for getting it right!
  18. Gina Lollabrigida?...although I too think it could be Joan Collins, which would be my first pick.
  19. Oh, that is soo Cute! "I SAW MOMMIE KISSING SANTA CLAUS" :x
