Frank Worth Collection Deal - Question? (OT)
twinkeee replied to RMeingast's topic in General Discussions
As you know, a lithograph is worth a lot more than a print, (a print can be made for pennies). The Calgary SUN is a reputable Newspaper, I cannot see them making this offer if it were not legit. Sounds to me like you would be buying the Lithograph and getting the subscription for free! A lot of the publishing companies are having a hard time right now and would do ANYTHING to get the advertising $$$$s -
Maybe that's why IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT was so popular back then, given that the audience were at the edge of their seats waiting for "IT" to Happen! Remember, this was a low budget movie, everything was done in one take.

Robin Williams was at his most hilarious when he was on CARSON, of course he was a lot younger back then. I am really looking forward to seeing RW!
-
The guests also stuck around and interacted with other guests on the show (often with hilarious results.) That was one of the many reasons Johnny Carson's Show was so successful, unlike any of the talk shows today, that and certainly his interaction with Ed!

Sepiatone, Maybe you weren't aware that a thread on BABY PEGGY has already bean started by FRED C DOBBS!

TCM, Thanks for the Baby Peggy documentary and films!!!!

I mentioned in a previous post that the Step Grandfather (Peggy's fathers Step Father), who was a Banker from Chicago, managed her first Million at the request of her father because her father felt he could not handle that much money. It was the Grandmother & Step Grandfather who squandered the first batch of money, the Million Plus. The 650K was squandered by her mother & father. -
...the famous Ed Ames tomahawk throw. Oh my, the look on Johnny Carson's face was 'priceless', it had to have had the longest laugh by an audinence in history! To think that was a one shot take ....

Just got through watching the Documentary, in one word...UNBELIEVABLE! What a life this woman lived, and yes, she is 94yrs. old and still very active, also very intelligent considering she never had a formal education. It is my understanding that the step-grandfather managed the money for the family because he was a banker and ended up steeling the money she made. -
darkblue; Call Roger's see what channel it is on in your area, it is Free the 1st month or 2... -twinkeee

Absinthe is very very popular & common in France, probably more common then coffee. Most people there drink it before a meal, to wet their appetite. You might say it is their National drink. It is very strong & sweet and usually drank in shot glasses.

I agree with you FredC about the coincidence of the movie plot, that is exactly what I thought too, that's why it is a movie. As well, the Mother-in-Law to be, mentioned her daughter's name, Karen, when she handed the locket to Nancy, (the same name of Nancy's friend when she was little). Also, the fact that she fainted in front of the GROOM is significant. It just seems to prove that she realized she was marrying into Karen's family when the locket was handed to her by the MIL-to-be, that explains why as she is walking down the stairs towards the groom , we see all these different emotions on her face,.it just seems more logic that she is thinking about the locket and the family at that precise time then whether she is a kleptomaniac. When Nancy was little, her friend, Karen, mentioned that her brother was away at school (the future grroom to-be). All these coincidences just seem to add up to her realization that she is marrying into that family, to me more so then realizing she is a kleptomaniac.. -

..So at the end when the good Nancy does realize there was a bad Nancy (due to the locket).the good Nancy breaksdown. This explains the breakdown. Because if each side of Nancy knew about the other, there was no reason for Nancy to have a breakdown. jamesj: As I mentioned in a reply to FredC, I felt the moment she saw the locket when her MOTHER-IN-LAW to be handed it to her, she realized she was marring into the family and THAT is the reason she had the breakdown, realizing she was marrying into the family. The fact that her Mother-in-law to be handed it to her is signifficant to that conclusion, it just seems to fit... -

That was EXACTLY what I took away from it, that the locket was the same one she received (or stole) as a child and that she was marring into the same family...isn't that why she became unhinged as she was walking down the isle, because that realization came to her and caused her to faint...the different expressions she showed as she was walking down the isle were priceless! I felt the exact same way Fred, when the camera looked up her face inside her veil, that shot just gave me goosebumbs, soo breathtaking! It truly was a remarkable movie with a lot of credit going to Miss Day! As far as her being 'crazy', more like 'crazy likea FOX'..... -

That has happened to me too in the past Janet, watching a movie that I have been dying to see only to fall asleep. However, I ALWAYS record movies that I like...something you may want to consider, well worth it! P.S. Don't you hate when that happens!!! -

THE LOCKET is one of the best noirs ever made. A unique story and a great cast. It really does contain a flashback within a flashback within a flashback. You were right, it really is one of the best noirs ever. Surprisingly, considering all the flashbacks, not that hard to follow and kept me mesmerised, wanting to believe she didn't do it. It was Laraine Day's best performace that I have ever seen. -
AMC!!!! LOL..Well stated MReingast!! :^0

Glad to hear TCM is showing THE BISHOP'S WIFE on Dec. 23th. It is such a 'feel good' movie and I always look forward to seeing it....
-
...Ben Mankiewicz and Alec Baldin , I find these two too sarcastic and full of themselves. Full of themselves?... No, really!!!... Both of them lack the CLASS that Robert Osborne has, by far!!
-
Watching THE MAD MISS MANTON, I have never seen it before....Love Barbara Stanwyck! Thank You for the info Markbeckuaf!
-
That surely would be unfortunate as there are so few viewers of silent-era pornagraphy and the loss of one fan is devastating. - LOL - Literally, laughing out loud! :^0

My guess is that a lot has changed since then....I doubt very much that people back then pushed, shoved, ran & elbowed one another like we see happening on TV today!!! I am sure people were more civilized when it came to shopping...
