Now that I see him in action, I have to admit, his 'rapid fire dialogue' is the glue that keeps the movie together. I loved his line: "Margie....I bet she drinks from the bottle"!

Maybe E. G. Robinson was not nominated because he did not have a very big role in this movie, (although an important one) , compared to Fred MacMurray !
