Yes, YOU'VE GOT MAIL is the one where they send emails and not know the other person.
They plan to meet on top of the Empire State Bldg., but things get srewed up (same as the scene in AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER and it is my understanding that is where the remake comes in.

I thought of AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER (1959) with Deborah Kerr, re-make of LOVE AFFAIR as well as YOU'VE GOT MAIL (1998) with Meg Ryan, Tom Hanks, also a re-make of both, but they were made After the 30s/40s.

So many of those swimming sequences were "same-old, same-old."
It's the swimming sequences that were the most appealing and ejoyable to watch ! She certainly was very gifted. We have not seen anything like it since her movies and probably never will.

The shots TCM showed of Esther in "Remembers" were just Amazing and stunning ! It just makes me even more anxious to see her movies as I have seen so few of them.
Your Grandmother was a very wise woman to have recognized such great talent in Esther Williams!
