  1. Lucky the did it in B&W because they won 2 Academy awards for best B&W cinematography as well as art direction. Had the movie been in color it would have competed with "My fair Lady" and as it was B&W it competed with "Night of the Iguana" and won the 2 1964 academy awards as well as best supporting actress LiLa Kedrova (.French war widow named Madame Hortense)

The arid island of crete would have required set color enhancments and proposed problems with wardrobe color balancing. The film would *not* have been improved by color and would not be the work of art that it is. Zorba is a beautiful film I can watch again and again. I love the Cimbalom music.

  2. I am trying to recall the name of a color movie classic I should know this movie name.

Movie starts with US troops marching through streets of a North African of Mid eastern city. In perfect formation they march past the German consulate who are watching from a balcony. They march past Date Palm trees up to the lavish entrance to the palace and line up into a firing line, They Open fire and a short battle ensues the Marines capture the palace and the sultan. . I thinkk the Time-frame is either before WW1 however may have been later before WW2. I cant believe I don't reall the name of this classic I have seen it this year on TCM abd have seen it before we all know the name of this film what is it?
