  1. I don't know if any libraries subscribe to the Variety service. I will certainly check out the facebook page. Thanks for adding to the Mildred Pierce info. I can only imagine how devastating it was to lose that role, especially in view of the fact that the film became a classic. sijohn
  2. Thank you. In regard to the Variety Archives even if you don't purchase a subscription you can still do a search and get the gist of the items. I also read that Virginia was up for the part that Ann Blyth eventually played in Mildred Pierce. Obviously this would have been a career changer if it had happened. It still seems strange though that she was never in another film, especially with her long list of credits and good reputation. It certainly appears that she had not "given up" after her MGM contract ended. sijohn
  3. A good source for finding out more about Virginia post 1943 is the Variety Archives, which are now online.. A quick glance shows that she was in talks for a radio show in 1944 and signed to do two independent movies in 1947 ( which obviously didn't happen). It's also clear that she was part of the social scene and not considered a "has been" during the immediate post MGM years.
