The Van Bueren Cartoons...What happened?
Trix_of_the_Flix replied to Hughes67's topic in General Discussions
Same thing on the east coast; a repeat showing of the Windsor Mackay segment--- I haven't been this disappointed since they promised us Jack Benny in "Charley's Aunt" then Osborn said "we couldn't find it; so here's Charlie Ruggle's 1930 version".....dohhh... -
Sounds like Olsen & Johnson in "Country Gentlemen"! Also check Brown & Carney

I would have thought that this film would have been released with a Vitaphone score-on-disc! -

I would Love to see the entire film; however I think Chase filmed it as a feature & originally entitled it; "Bank Night". Unexpectedly, there were major legal problems with the corporation that sponsored that popular giveaway gimmick & forced Hal Roach to withdraw the film after initial trade screenings. To cut the loss, the studio edited the footage down to a conventional 2-reel short & the title was changed to "Neighborhood House". Sadly, it would be the last Chase Film to be released by Hal Roach. The Roach studio was phasing out it's short comedies for the profitable fea

So is Robert Osbourne slowly phasing himself out?
Trix_of_the_Flix replied to MerryPickford's topic in General Discussions
He has trouble with slurred speech at times, running things together in his mouse like much. (mouth>mush) Well, you get the idea. I hope he didn't have a slight stroke, I think he may have even had some work done. hm. As for the TCM is it classic or crap? "The Big Chill"? "Close Encounters"? Then something else from 1990... Come On! The Big Chill was a crap show in it's time & has no place on TCM. Why not show the UK follow-up; "Peter's Freinds" with Fry & Laurie....? Seems about as likely. -
The Charley Chase Short aired after Cary Grant's "Monkey Business"! DOH! I saw no mention of it in the program grid. I seem to have the worst luck catching these, but I saw it just before the Laurel & Hardy foregin films. By the way, at least in the Spanish version of Blotto, we see what happens when Stan wants to get some air..... The electric fan footage is always missing in surviving latter-day prints, so I am guessing it was cut as far back as the 1937 re-issue....anyone know why??

I think Olsen & Johnson were a bit more.... Clark & McCullough/Wheeler & Woosley/Ritz Brothers were in all in about the same ballpark I think. Clark & McCullough were in a 1929 Gershwin stage revue & did a number from the show in a Fox Movietone Newsreel; "I left My Madamessille in New Rochell/So What-the-Hell?" That was pushing it a bit....but it was written by Gershwin. Whereas Clark & McCullough did shorts, Wheeler & Woosley made features. I do not know how much input to the comedy they had, I assume they were given a script & perf

An oddball comedy for an olympic year! It is unusual, however it falls into that mythical-toy-kingdom genre that was also the formula for "Duck Soup". Also; "Diplomaniacs" (1934 with Wheeler & Woosley) is in my opinon, the funniest of those! Hugh Herbert as the China Man! The supporting players are almost the same as "Duck Soup" (1933)! Migg Oggle Jigg.

Carry On Cowboy (and other "carry on" movies)
Trix_of_the_Flix replied to vickisilverwolf's topic in Comedy
"Carry-On Matron" is a fave--- I have no idea... so bad; it's good... However, I am a fan of Hancock's Half-Hour (Radio Series) and Hattie Jauqes, Sid James & Kenneth Williams all started out in that.... -
Dose anyone know for sure if the newsboy seen in the film is really Milton Berle??? He said in his autobiography that was his film debut!

Hey that's neat!!! I saw a hardback novelized book of "The Freshman" with a beautiful dustjacket. It was priced well out of my pocket, (as it was in an antique mall) but it was contemperary to the film & I thought how Harold Lloyd was really ahead of his time in terms of promotional merchindising! I know there were also sheet music & phongraph records of "Freshie" too!
