I was thinking the other day that TCM runs some shorts between movies to fill up time so that the next film can start on the hour, or half past...
TCM in past has run full lenght animated films (non-disney ones) and also also ran some of the UPA stuff...
But what about cartoons that are not shown on the other networks (i.e., other than Disney, WB, MGM's Tom and Jerry) - oh, and silent ones in particular.
Maybe I am not watching at the right times, but there must be a tresure trove of black and white, silent and other cartoons that are not being shown - and it would be a pleaseant surprise to see a few of these - Popeye, Betty Boop, Felix the Cat.
Cartoons were not intended for children but were part of the usual lineup of fils shown in theatres to adults - usually a newsreal, a travelogure or short or some type, and then a cartoon, before the feature.
(There are also som econtroversial ones that do not get shown on other chaneels - wartime ones, including ones that stereotype japanese, Coal Black and the Sebben Dwaves, and a few others that should be seen, but generally only played late at night)
