Read this interesting piece on a Bermuda website today about David O. Selznick retreating to that Atlantic holiday island in late 1938 with screenwriter Jo Swerling to polish (read bolt together) what was essentially the final draft of the "GONE WITH THE WIND" screenplay. I know writers as diverse as Sidney Howard, Oliver H,P. Garrett, Sidney Howard, Ben Hecht and the aforementioned Mr. Swerling all contributed to the screenplay (and I am also aware Selznick claimed the bulk of the credit for the screen adaptation for himself). Just curious if anyone has ever determined if any one individual in fact deserves the major kudos for the "GWTW" screenplay -- or is it really the kind of a script worked on by multiple hands which does indeed amount to more than the sum of its parts? To be fair, Selznick always said more than 80 percent of the dialogue, action and characterization was lifted verbatim from the Margaret Mitchell book..
