What I emember is vague. It was in black and white, or they were the dominant colours. The buildings were all very basic and smooth, the entire movie 'look' was like that. There was also a bilboard of a famous singer, I believe she was blonde.
I remember a private (or police) detective investigating the murder of a woman who seemed entirely unremarkable, *SPOILER* but he found in the basement of her house, or a related building, a recording studio, and it turned out she had been the voice of the famous beautiful singer.
That's all I remember, could someone tell me the name of this movie? I haven't seen it for many years but I remember it was very well done and would like to see it again.
