  1. I hadn't heard your story before, Miles. Thanks for sharing it. Debbie Reynolds had been earmarked to play the leading female role in a movie and even made a screen test for it. However, the male star of the movie felt all along that she was wrong for the part. After The Powers That Be viewed the test, they had to agree with the male star and another actress was hired. Can you name the movie, the actress that got the part and the male star?
  2. Andrews, Ellie - Claudette Colbert in It Happened One Night
  3. Kathryn Grayson was in Grounds for Marriage with Van Johnson.
  4. Love Me or Leave Me is correct. It is hard to imagine Doris Day as Mrs. Robinson, but it sure would have been interesting to see her in such a different role and who knows? Her career might have taken a whole new direction if she had played the part. Your thread, Miles.
  5. This is purely a guess, but I can't help thinking it sounds like something Joan Crawford would say.
  6. I have no problem with Manderstoke taking the next question.
  7. What movie did Ava Gardner turn down because she did not want her singing to be dubbed again as it had been in Show Boat?
  8. The show was Babes in Arms and the only 2 songs that were kept from the original score were the title song and "Where or When," although "The Lady Is a Tramp," also from the show, was heard as background music whenever June Preisser appeared on screen. "I Wish I Were in Love Again" was dropped because it was considered too sophisticated for Mickey and Judy at the time, but they got the chance to sing it in Words and Music. In addition to that song, three other songs that were cut from Babes in Arms were heard in Words and Music - Judy sang "Johnny One Note," Lena Horne sang "The Lady Is a Tramp," and Betty Garrett was heard singing a shortened version of "Way Out West." Frank Sinatra sang "The Lady Is a Tramp" and Kim Novak sang "My Funny Valentine" in Pal Joey.
  9. Yes, it would be. And did you know that Harry Cohn suggested Jack Lemmon, who was not known for his singing or his dancing, for the role? The ball's back in your court, Miles.
  10. This movie started out as a Broadway musical with the leading male role played by a dancer who went on to fame in the movies. When adapted for the screen, the same role was played by a singer. Can you name the movie and the two male stars who played the role?
  11. Ruth Roman was in Strangers on a Train with Robert Walker.
  12. Warne, Peter - played by Clark Gable in It Happened One Night
  13. I believe that would be Eve Knew Her Apples starring Ann Miller.
  14. That would be Marjorie Reynolds. She played Anne Mason in Up in the Air (1940), Linda Mason in Holiday Inn (1942) and Jean Mason in Dixie (1943).
  15. I'm thinking that would be Stowaway with Allan Lane playing the fiance and Robert Young the leading man who wins Alice Faye in the end.
  16. Priscilla Lane was in Arsenic and Old Lace with Edward Everett Horton.
