I think the only status is that there is no status. Universal did not greenlight the film because they wanted a PG-13 ratingand Guillermo Del Toro wanted an R. That was in 2011. There have been no new developments AFAIK. Maybe that's for the better, just think how horrible it would be if they threw a love story or something into HPL's best work. A few months ago I saw half of a movie from the 50s on TCM very late at night (early in the morning, actually) that Id'd really like to see it's entirety. A guy, most likely a two-bit hood, was trying to get his girl that worked in a dime-a-dance place from some other hoods. He got her out, the two were chased through New York, there was a fight near the end. The very end had the guy and his girl meeting at a NYC train station, happily ever after.
