  1. Warners owns Monogram. I am asking do they ever show any on TCM? I think I've seen DILLINGER 1945, THE APE 1940 & FEAR 1946. Can anybody familiar with the programming help me out. I'm mainly interested in FALL GUY 1947 (based on Cornell Woolrich), THE GUILTY 1947, FACE OF MARBLE 1946, 16 FATHOMS DEEP 1948 & CHINA'S LITTLE DEVILS 1945. Monogram put out alot of movies. Some of them are very good. Should be relatively easy for WB to put them on TCM.
  2. Its important to note that Nowhere To Go was made by Michael Balcon at MGM British Studio at Boreham Wood. This was the studio in which Balcon in the 30's was hired to operate for MGM to produce high quality pictures. This partnership fell apart very quickly when Mayer tried to insert himself into the filmmaking process by casting a floozie he picked up on a drunken binge. Balcon had Vivien Leigh intended for the part at that time unknown. An argument forced Balcon out at MGM after only one movie. Balcon still hung around in a reduced role & then took over Ealing. When Mayer was forced out of MGM in 1956, Balcon was able to convince them to make Nowhere To Go under his control. To read more about this episode read Balcon's book: "Michael Balcon Presents: A Lifetime of Films" Thru his stupidity & stubbornness, Mayer cost MGM millions$ in lost profits on films Balcon could have made for them & did make at Ealing.
  3. Its always difficult for producers to explain how an American star belongs in a British film. But they needed the big name to finance the project. Nader had a good run for Universal making, Flood Tide, Man Afraid & An Unguarded Moment. & others. Looking back I thought Nowhere To Go was lacking coherence in the cut version. Hopefully the longer version will explain a bit better what he is doing in England.
  4. If you check out this link you'll see the Studio-Canal DVD is 100 min. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Nowhere-To-DVD-George-Nader/dp/B008LU8NPU/ref=pd_sim_d_h__4 Apparently it was cut before release.
  5. TCM is showing this tomorrow at 10:45pm. It was the last movie made by Michael Balcon at Ealing. The time listed is 87 min. But they are selling a 100 min. version in England on DVD. Its a good and interesting movie.
  6. To my knowledge TCM has never shown "24 Hours In A Woman's Life" or "Gone To Earth". TCM often shows the bastardization & they need to stop / make a policy decision & stick to it. By showing them TCM are guilty of perpetuatiing these acts of destruction - its an OK by them. Its not Ok. TCM continues to show Curse Of The Demon which has been cut & retitled. They also show "She Played With Fire" which is based on a novel Fortune Is a Woman. (original title) She did not "Play With Fire" Arlene Dahl had nothing to do with the fire. So not only is the title wrong but the new title is stupid to boot. What we are seeing is a company Columbia Pictures take a finished product & tamper with it as if they own it! Columbia cut & made new credits for "Age Of Consent" by Michael Powell. TCM only showed the original version when Powell's wife got on and asked for it. We have a law in this country against creating a bogus copyright on property they don't own. & TCM might be guilty of using stolen property. Columbia might Think they own Curse of the Demon but it is common knowledge Night Of The Demon is the original title. TCM needs to stop showing Curse of the Demon once & for all. TCM needs to show "Fortune Is A Woman".
  7. Hollywood has desecrated hundreds of British films by changing titles & reediting them for no apparent reason other than to make them shorter. Hollywood in doing this: creating a new copyright, did not respect the wishes of the creators of the films & on each film is listed a Film Editor who was chosen to edit the film artistically. Virtually every British film whose title was changed got cut too. I have given examples of this such as "The Evil Mind" being a bastardized version of "The Clairvoyant" ... To take perfectly good movies & destroy them in this way is a criminal enterprise on a grand scale. In some cases they never bothered to watch the movies before cutting them. So they don't even know what they are cutting has no bearing on the story. A million times worse than colorizing. One of the all-time worst cases: 24 Hours In A Woman's Life was in color originally. Cut & printed in B/W as Affair In Monte Carlo. & one of the worst examples Gone To Earth by Michael Powell was cut into an incoherent mess by David Selznick calling it The Wild Heart. British artists often used a novel to film & when they did so had the consideration to use the title of the novel. To make a film doesn't require the filmmakers to step on the author's neck while doing so.
  8. TCM may have shown some of them but not in a long time. The point of my list is a great deal of them are film noir related & there are alot of people who think like me that this type of movie has not dated as much as some other genres. Sudden Fear was on Encore several years ago.
  9. I have a 12" RCA B/W tv which I use with a Sony DVD/VCR for playback. I record Sunday Nite Noir on METV which might be just local. Thriller Twilight Zone (2) The Fugitive Naked City Peter Gunn Mr. Lucky Route 66 The Saint It runs from 10 pm - 5 am I will record these on vhs. I find that color tvs do not get black enough to present b/w properly. Even if you bring the color to its lowest point. I have not yet bought a flat screen tv & do not intend to do so. I'm happy with what I am used to using. As for colorized I bought them cheap just as a novelty. You cannot take it seriously & it is what it is.
  10. I am in favor of colorization for scifi or fantastic type stories. I own several colorized movies. Earth Vs. Flying Saucers It Came From Beneath The Sea King Kong The Thing (From Another World) Dressed To Kill Woman In Green Terror By Night Casablanca White Zombie Maltese Falcon She Things To Come Christmas Carol
  11. We actually need another old movie channel. Having one channel is like having one world dictatorship like USA. There is a gigantic gap in which information is siphoned thru a screen & all the subscribers get are watered down MGM type pictures that are not about anything & are just there to fill up a time slot. Like our Lame stream media.
  12. With regards to Michael Powell & British films in general, In America they created bastardized versions by retitling them & creating a new copyright. If TCM were to show a British film, they could show the bastardized version which is most likely cut (not by the film editor) by an unknown person not involved in the creative process. If TCM were to show the bastardized version, they are doing a disservice to subscribers & British artists. If they want to show the original movie, it might involve having a contract with the British rights holder & it would cost money. There are hundreds of bastardized British films here & TCM needs to develop a policy to show only original British films from now on. The time has come to relegate the bastardized versions to the trashheap where they belong. Example: "The Evil Mind" is a bastardized version of "The Clairvoyant". "Human Monster" is a bastardized version of "Dark Eyes Of London" etc.
  13. TCM could show some of these but correct me if I'm wrong have chose to omit from the channel. 14. Did anybody watch this movie? It was very soft - out of focus. Must TCM show movies that are clearly doctored? It is a disservice to all the subscribers as well as the artists & creative people who made 5 Steps To Danger. TCM - if you want to show a movie remember the true owners of the movie are the people who paid at the box office & the people who created the artwork. Not the present company that has possession of it.
