There is no worse war movie than the 1984 dud of really dumb duds RED DAWN. Just plain embarrassingly bad. #2 through #5 are the simple minded and absurd RAMBO messes. Is their a worse actor than Sylvester Stallone? Nyet, there is not.

Thoroughly enjoyed watching A HARD DAY'S NIGHT. Had never seen it before. "Grampa" rather stole the show. The music was great as I have always enjoyed the Beatles. Thanks TCM for broadcasting this interesting nostalgic movie. My how times have changed in 50 years.

BREAKER MORANT is my favorite Aussie movie and one of my top 10 of all time from anywhere. Love that movie. Very moving especially the superb and sad ending.

Looks like Errol Flynn's mustache....
All I can see is the evil glare from the woman over Barbara Hutton's head. If looks could kill.................................

Wow, Clint Walker!! What a heart throb ladykiller he must have been. If I had looked like that instead of the short dweeb I've always been, I think my love life with the ladies would have been 1,000,000% more exciting!!! Women probably fainted dead away when he took off his shirt. Nobody ever said life is fair.

They seem to be very picky about who they choose for interviews with RO. Many lesser stars could've been featured and provided interesting interviews before they died.......
She did a terrific job. One of the most interesting guest programmers they have featured. I for one am extremely glad they asked her to be there. Thank you, Dolores Hart!!

I have never recorded anything off of TCM or any other channel. I was born a dinosaur and I will die a dinosaur though I admit I have bought maybe 25 movies over the years. There is an old X-Box I view one occasionally on which was left over from my sons' gaming days. I don't own a cellphone either.

Just days away, June 6, 7, 8. The annual WW2 weekend of events at the Mid Atlantic Air Museum at the Reading Airport in Reading Pa. Lots of exhibits and aircraft flying around for 3 days and you can maybe get a ride in a B 17 or a B 24, B 25, etc. There still are some WW2 veterans with us who give talks and you can meet them one on one. I 'll be spending my weekend at the show , its only 20 minutes from my home.
I wish I was close enough to attend this event. Sounds absolutely fascinating. Enjoy.

Please forgive me for going against the thinking of most of you in TCM Nation and mentioning a recent film from 2007. Javier Bardem's performance as Anton Chigurh in "No Country For Old Men" was absolutely terrifying. If you saw or spoke to Javier Bardem's character the person would end up dead. At the end of the movie when the Anton Chigurh character is in a car accident, his arm broken, two teenagers walk up to Anton Chigurh and speak to him. I was surprised Javier Bardem's character did not kill the two kids. Instead he offered to buy their shirt so he could make a sling for his broken arm. Most deserving Oscar winning performance.
I completely and totally agree. This performance was the most chilling I have ever seen. He had soulless shark eyes. A killing machine with absolutely no remorse. None. Nada.

I am currently reading a brilliant and fascinating new WW2 history book entitled THE BOMBERS AND THE BOMBED by Richard Overy. After reading about 1/2 so far I heartily endorse this insightful book which covers the bombing war from both the Allied side and the Axis side plus the recipients of the high explosives and incendiary campaign in Europe from 1940 to 1945. For anyone interested in the WW2 air war this should be a must read.

TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH: As good a WW2 movie as there is. I salute all the vets of all our wars and especially the Army Air Force of WW2. My father was one of the B24 vets of the 8th Air Force. He was one of the lucky ones. He came back in one piece even though he was shot down and spent a year in the German POW system.

ONIONHEAD is particularly sub-par, not quite figuring out what genre it wants to fall into-- but Griffith is fun as always and Felicia Farr turns in a charming performance.
NO TIME FOR SERGEANTS is better, but none of these film vehicles really allowed him to build on the dramatic potential he showed in the far, far superior A FACE IN THE CROWD.
Not two of my favorite films. Andy G. wears on me fast. I won't be watching them.

Henry Fonda in "Once Upon a Time in the West". One bad dude.

SUMMER OF "42 (1971) was a teenage boy coming-of-age movie that I liked. I fell in love with Jennifer O'Neill.

Really enjoyed the "What's my Line?" video. Thanks for posting this. I certainly like Mr. Marshall as much as you do.

I bought the German series/movie GENERATION WAR on DVD and watched it yesterday. A very powerful evocative drama following five young wartime Germans (men and women) from 1941 on the eve of the massive German invasion of the Soviet Union through the war's end in late 1945 when the traumatized group meets up again in the shattered aftermath of Germany. One must remember when viewing this that it takes historical license with many issues from that period but raises stark questions to be thought about. A very powerful well-made well-acted novelized slice of war/death/nationalism/brutality/guilt/racism/naivete/complicity. Very worth watching if you get the chance. The film is in subtitled German. Reminds me in parts of this movie of Brando's THE YOUNG LIONS characterization. I will watch GENERATION WAR again to reflect on it more. As I am a person of German American extraction whose father fought in WW2 as a young American Army Air Force officer one realizes that he could have been born in Germany instead and fought with the German/Nazi forces. Such are the accidents of birthplace.

Consistent personality led to popularity in the golden age of movie stars.
Very definitely true. A lot of people did/do not like it when their favorites deviated from their consistent personalities. Perhaps my favorite Henry Fonda movie is "Once Upon a Time in the West" simply because he went out of a lifelong screen "character" and played a mesmerizing evil man.

Not much of a story but I love the sights and sounds of the incredible race machines. Hearing the throaty whines and growls and roars of the full-on power engines accelerating and shifting gives me goosebumps. The slow motion crash and destruction of the airborne Ferrari is something to behold. A good movie for a racing fan to watch just for the decades ago action. A time when fans could be much closer to the action and drivers than they can be today.

I love Monty Python too!

I LOVE monty Python! What has that have to do with how terrible I think MARS ATTACKS is?

Glad you love Monty Python. Just did not think you liked funny total insanity. My bad. Apologies. If I mention Monty Python to my wife she looks at me like a fresh doggie pile just appeared on her kitchen table.

Hollywood's depictions of death on screen

I have no clue whether there is an afterlife or not. I'm agnostic at best. My wife is a firm believer in an afterlife and lives to serve her image of godliness and an afterlife. My favorite movie involving death/life and afterlife projections onscreen is A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH (1946). Simply a terrific and thoughtful movie IMO.
