  1. I think there are a 1000 "modern" movies that should be remade as SILENT FILMS since actual good intelligent dialogue and thoughtful plots are so often lacking today. Keep the wondrous and visually splendid FX and just remake them SILENT with an occasional subtitle as so often there is nothing worth listening to anyway except sometimes the music. For every good "modern" movie there seem to be 3-4 not-worth-hearing-anyway movies: SILENCE IS GOLDEN applies.
  2. I have had it with basketball this season. I don't care who wins the game as I don't like either team. IT"S BASEBALL SEASON NOW!!!!! GO COLORADO ROCKIES!!! Anybody but the dratted Yankees and hated Dodgers.
  3. This is a TOTAL disaster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A **** so far. Pardon my Swahili.
  4. Robert Taylor should have been a late 60's rock star. "SPANGLER" would have been a great rock band name and lead singer name.
  5. Super macho John Wayne's real name being Marion Morrison. Just how far would "Marion" have gotten in Hollywood as the quintessential western/cavalry tough guy being named "Marion" Wayne..........................................I don't think too far. "The Duke" might have been known as "El Magnifico" the dancing cowpoke instead.
  6. A very sad and tragic story of a child's death I had never heard of before.
  7. I agree with everything you stated misswonderly. Loved watching ACT OF VIOLENCE again today. One of the very best noirs. Really like Mary Astor and Janet Leigh in it as well. So well acted. My father was shot down over Germany in a B-24 and spent a year in terrible officer POW camps, starvation conditions and forced brutal POW marches westward ahead of the advancing Soviet Army. He would never speak of anything other than to say he would never go hungry ever again like he and others did then. My long dead father was haunted by the POW experience you could tell.
  8. The novel DUNE was the single greatest sci-fi novel I ever read. To film it would definitely take an epic of several movies much as Lord of the Rings did. Exciting to think about. I never thought Lord of the Rings could be brought to the silver screen in such an epic fashion as it was but perhaps Dune could be too by the right director. What a very exciting project it would be.
  9. I watched the first part of GIRL SHY the other night but was too sleepy to watch it all. Very good what I saw. I also don't own a DVR so I never tape anything.
  10. THE YOUNG LIONS would be the one I am most looking forward to. Very good movie I have not seen in years. Brando is very good in it.
  11. My opinion on Allen and Farrow plus their work is the same as yours Remy_Orpen. No boycott for me.
  12. The Criterion Collection 1925 Restoration was excellent and certainly was a great movie. I am delighted they aired this and even more delighted that I watched it. Now I can say that I have seen THE GOLD RUSH. Terrific film. Terrific Chaplin masterpiece. Thanks TCM.
  13. I'm with you finance: "Stairway to Heaven" would be an iconic name.
  14. I did not know there was a 1940's re-release so you are most probably right. I just took what I saw on the TCM schedule as what was being shown tonight. Either the 20's or 40's release I have not seen either before. I was not trying to be smart and stir up something as I have no knowledge. I have no updated leads on anything just an interest in seeing something classic that I have not watched before.
  15. As I have never before seen THE GOLD RUSH (1925), I am wholeheartedly looking forward to viewing this Chaplin silent classic tonight (Mar. 21) on TCM. After reading all the reviews both modern and old on rottentomatoes.com I am getting pumped to watching. Gets a 100% rating which does not happen very often. http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=5&ved=0CEsQFjAE&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.rottentomatoes.com%2Fm%2Fthe-gold-rush%2F&ei=MZEsU4fSD6GqyAGr6YCIAg&usg=AFQjCNHGrEf8iI-CLsrCOUiZ7iIxx8pJFQ&bvm=bv.62922401,d.aWc&cad=rja
  16. Love that photo of Marie Dressler! She was one of a kind!
  17. SLING BLADE was an excellent and moving movie that I saw when it first came out. Would be a great movie to show on TCM. Well acted, great story, emotional.
  18. CLOVERFIELD 2008- A very effective and fine watching monster movie IMO. The semidocumentary style and as-it-happened thru one pair of eyes/camera were very effective and different. Anybody else see this movie or have comments on it?
  19. Intriguing, very intriguing. I had heard nothing about any of these new movies before. I would hope they have actual valid well done story lines and aren't just computerized characterless action.
  20. I don't mean to rain on your parade BUT why would you not watch two very good movies simply because you don't like the lead-in mouth Bourdain? I am sorry but that makes little sense to me. Do you also not eat food anymore just because Bourdain cooks, reviews foods or whatever he does? I had/have no idea who he was/is and don't care to know. Simply wanted to see what turned out to be two very fine movies. I would have watched both even if Putin or whatever the North Korean nitwit is had lead into them. That's like saying you will never visit the Rocky Mountains or Oregon or the Sierras from the East Coast cause you would have to cross the much duller flats of Kansas/Nebraska to get there.
  21. Had a well nourished stomach (kept growling) and mind after watching the two terrific films EAT DRINK MAN WOMAN and MOSTLY MARTHA last evening. As I had never seen either I was enthralled by both emotionally and the food.............................don't get me started on the exquisite food. I was all but licking and chewing the TV screen. Could swear I could smell the bounty at times. ONLY ONE QUESTION: How in the heck could everybody pictured be so thin their whole lives if they gorged on bounties like those pictures. Some shoulda been looking like Orson Wells and Marlon Brando late in their lives (and me).
  22. As I am (to put it most delicately) a "chunky" old gut.................er I mean guy (slip of the tongue), I Always enjoy movies about FOOD!!! Getting my slathered-in-butter popcorn ready.
  23. I am definitely IN LOVE again!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh Dolores!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  24. That's nothing hamradio. Here's a truly ancient 5000 year old Egyptian computer.
