Sounds very interesting. Had never heard of it.

Everything is working fine for me this morning on navigating the forum discussions. Everything is rapid and not freezing up. If anyone did anything to repair the problems then I say thanks.

For several days I have not been able to get into anything or navigate around the forum. Just freezes up or locks up or whatever and sits there. Can't go back or forward. Just end up clicking out of TCM.com entirely. I am surprised I was able to post this if indeed it does post.

I could not agree more with your fine statement. Well put!!!!!!! Totally in agreement with you and your take on "The Story of Film" and Mark Cousins.

I have exactly the same questions as you do AndyM108. I'm wondering as well.

Amazing amount of stylized holy American smugness on this thread. IN MY OPINION: Episode 6 was brilliant. An educational and evocative experience for me as the whole "The Story of Film" has been so far. I enjoy his voice and opinions and especially his worldview of film evolution. Looking forward to #7. Cheers.

Ya gotta approach watching The Story of Film like viewing a great mountain from different directions. Every view is different but still spectacular as one piece of a gigantic awesome whole that can't be captured in it's entirety from any one direction. One piece of a multifaceted puzzle.

preNazis = hundreds of years of Prussian history, militaristic society and paranoia culminating in the utterly devastating (to Germany) defeat in WW1, subsequent to WW1 civil war between the German Reds and right-wing Freikorps, and then the Great Depression. I'm so glad I wasn't a German living thru the 1920's and 1930's. A frightening place and existence caught between the violent Communists/Bolsheviks on one extreme and the violent far-right Nationalists/preNazis on the other.
I sure agree that it is hard to understand and noir-like.

Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse. My bad. I am thumping my fingers with a ruler.

Greatly enjoyed watching "The Testament of Dr. Mebuse" last night. The first time I had seen this fine German movie. Thanks TCM for showing it. Much appreciated. Really enjoyed Otto Wernicke as investigator Lohmann. He stole the movie I thought. Were Liessem as Lilli was gorgeous and adorable. I fall in love with a different starlet every week. Once again, thanks TCM for showing old foreign language classics such as this one. Windows on bygone days.

A big big ditto to what you said Sepiatone.

Tom Clancy has passed away. A very sad day. Superb author and storyteller. Some excellent movies resulted from his terrific novels. I am stunned by his death. Have always looked forward to his new exciting novels and to the movies that have come from them. A loss to both the movie world and the literary world. Condolences to his family and to his millions of fans that I am one of.

Revolutions have started over less.

It has been a highly enjoyable and informational series. I myself will continue to watch it every Monday night whether anybody else on this forum does or does not. Cheers.
-
I myself am enjoying his offbeat Irish voice. Does not bother me. The series including part 5 has been enjoyable and informative for me. As I am not expecting a complete biblic epiphany from the series and am not trying to disparage what Cousins has wrought thru years of hard work then viewing has been working for me most enjoyably plus learning some interesting tie ins between then and now. New Knowledge is a good thing and I am gaining some. Myself, I watch for the wonder and enjoyment only. Not looking for criticisms.

If I was arm in arm with Greer Garson and Deborah Kerr I would have a foot-wide cat-eating grin as well. Oh Brando you poor poor beset upon man. My deepest sympathies and warmest jealousies.

I have enjoyed watching "Foyle's War" on Masterpiece Mystery for it's decade long seasonal run each year. Very British and often very dry and cynical but a well made/fascinating look into wartime and postwar British politics and crime. There have been few Masterpiece productions I have not enjoyed over the years. What are other viewers thoughts?

????? Nobody else has comments on the Breaking Bad finale or admits to having watched it.???????
-
You are most certainly right mongo. My bad taste in my earlier statement. Kudos to these extraordinary ladies of the silver screen.
-
I only watched scattered episodes after the first season but I just watched the series finale which was very intense and ended very appropriately with climactic emotional and physical violence. A horrifically interesting and most definite ending to watch if one has even limited knowledge of the story line. The complete moral degradation and degeneration of a once decent man who shattered his family and friends and many others along his twisted pathway to Hell.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seems like I just fell into a Stephen King horror novel. As the saying goes: "All glory is fleeting".

Scotswoman lassies like Deborah Kerr.

A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO GREER GARSON FOR SURE. My favorite actress. What a lovely personality and lovely face. Thanks mongo.

A big ditto CaveGirl and Pineknoll. The Tin Drum is a great film I haven't seen since it first came out in theaters. I would love to see it again.
