I watched 2 movies today (back-to-back). The first was Five Came Back made in 1939 starring Lucille Ball, Chester Morris, John Carradine, and others. The second was Back from Eternity made in 1956 starring, Robert Ryan, Rod Steiger, Anita Ekberg and others. Both movies had the same plot - 12 people on a plane crash in the South American jungle and conflicts arise when, after repairs to the plane, it is decided only 5 people can be flown out. The unusual thing I noticed, was that even though it was an obvious remake - both films were directed by the same man - John Farrow!!
I was just curious to know if any other director had the opportunity, years later, to remake a film with a whole new cast.
Anyone???
