I would love to see John Wayne's The Conqueror, if only to see how bad it was and since this film is so notorious for being the film that killed most of the cast and crew within 10-20 years after making it.
John Wayne as Genghis Kahn?
Count me in.
John Wayne really played Genghis Kahn?

Geraldine Page - THE BEGUILED
Geraldine Page always surprises me in a good way.

Thanks for sharing this, fxreyman.

I see that KNUTE ROCKNE ALL AMERICAN is airing on TCM on May 27.

Anne Meara had a small but very funny role in THE OUT OF TOWNERS.

Her life WAS incredibly fascinating and full. She had a revolving door on her bedroom for one thing.
I just didn't think Steven Bach's writing did justice to her life.
That is why I was wondering if anyone liked any of the other biographies ............ ?
Yeah, I suspected that Dietrich had an interesting life.
Surely there has to be a biography that does it justice.

Roller Boogie with Tor Johnson
I must admit that I kind of enjoyed ROLLER BOOGIE when it aired on TCM recently.

White Banners (1938) is high up on my wish list. As well as the great Claude Rains, it features Fay Bainter's lead actress Oscar nominated role. Sad that this film has all but disappeared.
I would love to see Claude Rains get a Summer Under The Stars Day this year.

Please don't tell me that Tor Johnston is an example of the sexier male stars back in the day.
AND, don't tell me not to live, just sit and putter.
Life's candy and the sun's a ball of butter . . .

I wonder if there is also a movement to de-color movies that are just way too colorful for their own good?

One thing I found interesting is that one of the TCM spotlight hosts used films noir as the plural rather than film noirs.

If you don't stop bashing Nancy Allen, a certain someone might just report you - or start a thread about it - or write a long letter to the moderators - or something.
Was Nancy Allen one of the girls that was mean, mean, mean to Sissy Spacek in CARRIE?

I have it on 45 rpm. It is the flip side to This Tornado Loves You.
But not on iTunes?
Bummer.

Does anyone have any thoughts on SYNECDOCHE, NEW YORK, the Charlie Kaufman film that starred Philip Seymour Hoffman?
For me, it was one movie that I was glad when it was over.

"Toads are nice."
Tabitha Stephens on the Season 5 episode of BEWITCHED entitled "I Don't Want To Be A Toad, I Want To Be A Butterfly"
Okay, okay, this is not really one-liner, but I love this quote from one of my favorite episodes of BEWITCHED.

I'm always curious what draws people, especially those under, say 30, to seek out music or movies that are not popular today. e.g. as a musician when I wanted to learn more and more about playing jazz guitar I went looking for the masters and that took me back to the 50s. That is one of the reasons I got into 'old' movies; the movies that featured the jazz standards I was learning.
So I just wondered how your nephew discovered those Basil Holmes movies. I doubt it was while channel surfing.
He found the videos on YouTube.

The Red Mill is also on DVD.... Arbuckle was hired to direct the film but probably didn't do all that much work since George Hill replaced him. Arbuckle for the screen credit as William Goodrich. According to Davies, E.J. ("Eddie") Mannix also directed.
Does the DVD for THE RED MILL have any commentary or special features?

I'll put in my 2¢ worth: I like the 'Summer Under The Stars' programming in August better than I like the '31 Days Of Oscar' programming in February/early March.
I like the idea of having 1 star per day to have their movies featured for 31 days.
Generally I do enjoy Summer Under The Stars more than 31 Days Of Oscar.

His rendition of the title theme song, an Irish Japanese lullaby on the Hawaiian ukulele was particularly effective ...
Tora Tora Rora
Is that song available for download on iTunes?

I suspect the main reason is that people are drawn to actors that are relevant and popular today. e.g. one can read about them in the tabloids, see them on late night shows, or the news, follow them on Twitter, etc...... Dead people aren't very relevant in this regard.
Yes, I think if Channing Tatum and Jennifer Lawrence made a black-and-white movie, there would be an audience.

Bonzo went on strike and Reagan fired him.
Really???

You've never seen porn before? It doesn't burn THAT bad.
I must admit I love this response.

So it's really a WEST SIDE STORY TRIBUTE. Sterling who?
If only they could find a movie that Sterling Hayden made with Rita Morena or Russ Tamblyn to follow SO BIG that night.

I just saw RETURN TO OZ for the first time yesterday.
It features Fairuza Balk as Dorothy and is a very well-made fantasy that held my interest from beginning to end.
Piper Laurie plays Aunt Em, and Jean Marsh plays the evil Mombi in Oz (in Kansas her character is a nurse who works with a doctor who wants to use an electrical device to wipe out Dorothy's memories of Oz).
I loved the talking chicken and Jack Pumpkinhead.
