I love to watch the I Love Lucy episodes and try to imagine what color Lucy's clothes are. I'm always excited to find real color photographs taken on the I Love Lucy set, or seeing photos of the actual clothing or something and being able to see definitive proof as to what color different outfits were. I saw Lucy's classic polka dot dress at a museum in Hollywood--for those who are curious, it's navy blue with white polka dots. I heard that much of the set and costumes were in various shades of grey because that showed up best on the film. Even the cast members wore grey tinted makeup (with the exception of Desi Arnaz I imagine). I'd have to think that in person, they probably didn't look as good as they did in black and white. Lol.
I'll still watch the special anyway... but I would never replace my black and white I Love Lucy episodes with colorized ones.
On THE LUCY SHOW Season 2 DVD sets, you have the option of watching the shows in color or in black-and-white.
The episodes were filmed in color, per Lucille Ball's request, but most TV viewers at the time they were originally aired saw them on black-and-white TV sets.
I never saw the shows when they originally aired so I like the color episodes since they were filmed in color.

I've ALWAYS got "Seinfeld" on the brain.
I prefer THE BIG BANG THEORY.

OMG! I barely recognize her.........
Back in the day (especially in the UK) Helen Mirren was known for showing some skin in her movies.
The British version of the TV series COUPLES that used to air on PBS had a number of references to "Helen Mirren movies."
She's a classically trained actor who has performed many Shakespearean roles and also a very beautiful woman.
Here's the infamous Parkinson interview:
And here is the reprise many years later:

Oh, for sure. And its a secret she will carry for the rest of her life...............
I haven't seen THE DEEP END in awhile so I don't know remember if Tilda Swinton's reaction in that movie is as powerful as Joan Bennett's in THE RECKLESS MOMENT.
I like both movies very much though.

That was just a typo, but in the spirit of this thread I just left it in. I guess "so good it's bad" would be right at home with CGI movies.
And in addition to special effects being "so good they're bad" there are also those movies (old and new) that try so hard to be "deep" that they are quite awful.

Boy George IS George of the Jungle
I think there were some movies that actually had a promo tag along those lines.
Charlton Heston IS Moses.

I selected FRENCH CANCAN as an Essential for the tribute TCM will do for Maria Felix, in my 2017 schedule I posted last week in the If You Could Program SOTM For A Year thread.
You probably already know this, Arturo, but Robert Aldrich originally approached Maria Felix about the playing the lead in THE LEGEND OF LYLAH CLARE.
The two couldn't come to an agreement so the part eventually went to Kim Novak.

A pig. (He didn't want to take the blame).
On the other hand, if you don't care for my theory, here's what Wiki says:
The fire started at about 9:00 P.M, October 8, in or around a small barn that bordered the alley behind 137 DeKoven Street.[2] The traditional account of the origin of the fire is that it was started by a cow kicking over a lantern in the barn owned by Patrick and Catherine O'Leary. In 1893, Michael Ahern, the Chicago Republican reporter who wrote the O'Leary account, admitted he had made it up as colorful copy.[3] The shed next to the O'Learys' was the first building to be consumed by the fire, but the official report could not find the exact cause.[4] There has, however, been some speculation that would suggest that the fire was caused by a person, instead of a cow. Some testimonies stated that a group of men were gambling inside the barn so they would not be seen by others. The lamp that they were using was accidentally knocked over and started the fire. Little evidence has been presented to prove whether or not this is true. There has been speculation as to whether the cause of the fire was related to other fires that began the same day.
I like the pig theory.

I really liked Lucille Ball's performance in Stage Door. While I think that Stage Door is definitely one of the highlights and more well known films in Ball's filmography.
I love Lucille Ball in BEST FOOT FORWARD, where she essentially plays herself: a movie star looking for publicity.
The movie was adapted from a play but in the play the character was not named "Lucille Ball" as she was in the movie.
I love the way Lucy plays the diva aspects of the role.

Today, I recorded all of the bad sci-fi movies. I look forward to watching some of them this weekend after work.
There's something about those "bad" sci-fi movies that are so appealing --- along the so bad they're good lines.
I mentioned THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN'T DIE in another thread.
The assistant's death scene is classic.

Actually, it is no longer.known as FMC. Awhile back,.it changed to FXM.and FXM Retro. The Retro portion is what I list here; it features classic era films, commercial free, from approximately 3 am to 3 pm daily. The other portion has more recent Hollywood blockbusters,.which are shown with commercials.
Thanks, Arturo.
I'll look for FXM and FXM Retro and see if I have those channels.
There are so many channels that I never watch.
I do get several Encore channels.

Speaking of subtext in Hitchcock films, I wonder if I'm imagining subtle homoerotic undertones between Tippi Hedren's and Suzanne Pleshette's characters in The Birds. In particular, the scene where Tippi Hedren spends the night with Plessette. No doubt many learned papers have been written speculating Hitchcock's use of this.
I've never the seen THE BIRDS in its entirety but definitely will look for that element when I watch it.
Hitchcock excelled in slipping in things that went right over the heads of the guys at the Hays Office.

Yes, quite. Watch Touch of Evil and Akim's cigar during their confrontation. Very intentional.
Was Janet Leigh's character supposedly raped in TOUCH OF EVIL?
I wasn't sure when I watched the movie but I thought I remember Jamie Lee Curtis saying that she (the character) was raped in the tribute to her mother that aired on TCM in her comments about her mother's performance in TOUCH OF EVIL

In an earlier interview the Minister really said that Depp should just bug ger off which I thought was quite hilarious in a very frank Australian way.
I imagine he was then swarmed by the world's media so he put on a suit jacket and attributed that remark to the dogs.
Weird choice of words that are verboten on this site. Yesterday I tried to type the Nazi dude's name, Himm ler and otto correct clicked in.
Yeah, the things that are bleeped can be quite amusing.

The Party is alright, if you like Peter Sellers, and you especially have to like his Indian persona. Dr. Strangelove is quite a bit more than Mr. Sellers. Sterling Hayden, Slim Pickens, and George C. Scott, being big. Peter Sellers is not his usual self in his triple role in the movie, except for some of the times when he lets his Strangelove personation go extreme. He has one of the best lines in the movie as the American President: Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room!
I did see Sellers in MURDER BY DEATH.
I think he said he didn't like that movie. He didn't think it was funny.

In Nipkow's picture of Janet he was admiring her ....
Ahhhhh I see.

Don't forget "Cool Rider" from GREASE 2.

I couldn't resist.
-
Yes, I've seen both. Like both. I guess what draws me in is the ordered, safe world of the protaganists being shattered by outside forces invading their way of life and the chaos that results. Hitchcock did that so well in his "wrong man" movies........
The way the James Mason character in THE RECKLESS MOMENT comes to genuinely care for the Joan Benett character is very touching.
When she's on the phone to her husband at the end, she puts up a good front, but you get the inpression that she will remember James Mason and his sacrifice for the rest of her life.

Yes, she was very young.

Helen Mirren

That scene where Gene Tierney (wearing sunglasses) lets Darryl Hickman drown is really powerful.

My mother was a big fan of Paul Newman, but I've never really been able to get him very much.
I'm not sure exactly what it is.

I think I mentioned this on another thread with speed racer.
Mommie Dearest the Musical
If it's an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Faye Dunaway would not be a part of it even if he asked her.

Well, a couple of times I think I saw a little sensitivity sneak into some of your posts. Sorry, I don't mean to upset you, Dargo. If it makes you feel any better, normally I think you're a brute.
Dargo is a a nice guy, TomJH, but sometimes one has to be cruel to be kind.

I know someone who says that she can no longer watch the drowning scene in LEAVE HER HEAVEN now that she's a mother.
She can't help thinking about her own son.
