The worst possible cast selection.....
HoldenIsHere replied to FredCDobbs's topic in General Discussions
TCM aired SISTERS a couple of years ago. I think it was one of the selections by a Guest Programmer. It was a very strange and captivating movie and features a great performance by Margot Kidder. -
There's no going back, Hibi.

I have never seen DR. STRANGELOVE due my aversion to Peter Sellers, but maybe I should give that movie a chance. THE PARTY has also been recommended to me.

THE FOUNTAINHEAD... any opinions about this weird movie??
HoldenIsHere replied to FredCDobbs's topic in General Discussions
THE FOUNTAINHEAD is that movie with the scene with the phallic sledgehammer, right? -
I really think someone should submit their introduction to HOT SPELL in the TCM Fan Favorite contest.

UK Prime Ministers on film, in honor of UK Election Day

Yes, it was really good performance. I know some people on this board dislike Meryl Streep but she's a really good actor in command of both technical and emotional acting skills. -

You mean Sexiest Men Alive must abide by the same laws as mere mortals? -
Great cartoon, but , yes, that bratty kid is annoying but funny.

That's interesting idea "so good it's bad." I guess that would apply to movies that try so hard to impress but are so obvious about it.

Underrated Gems in Someone's Filmography

Thanks for posting that signed photo of Marlene Dietrich, TomJH. I had never seen any of her movies until I started watching TCM although I knew her name. I mainly associated her with the song "Falling In Love Again." My grandmother had an album (yes, vinyl) of songs from movies and that one was on it. I was blown away by her performance in BLONDE VENUS. Although her part in TOUCH OF EVIL was not very big, she is mesmerizing in the movie. -
Why the men of old Hollywood are sexier than today's men...

"SexyBack" was a song released by Justin Timberlake in 2006. It was his first number 1 single. The video was pretty cool (in my opinion). The opening line was: "I'm bringing sexyback." The very catchy (again in my opinion) chorus is "Go ahead, be gone with it." -

I think that Martin Stephens dubbed his own voice in THE OTHERS. It's not out of sync but something gives that impression to me. -

Justin Timberlake tried to bring sexy back a few years ago. -

Yes, I really wish TCM would air KING OF THE GYPSIES.

I really enjoyed Michael Sheen's portrayal of Tony Blair in THE QUEEN. And, of course, I loved Helen Mirren as Queen Elizabeth II. The dynamic between the two of them was fascinating in the movie. -
While I had heard of Jean Simmons I had never seen any of her movies until I started watching TCM. She's now one of my favorites. The first movie of hers I saw was HOME BEFORE DARK. I though the blonde hair was very unflattering. It wasn't until later that I learned that the dyed blond hair was part of the plot of the movie.

The only MOULIN ROUGE I've ever seen is the one with Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor.

I prefer supertext.

I've never seen the version of SO BIG that has Sterling Hayden in the cast. I'm looking forward to seeing it although I'm not expecting it to be as good as the version directed by William Wellman and starring Barbara Stanwyck. I love that version. PS. Cabbages are beautiful

HITS & MISSES: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow on TCM
HoldenIsHere replied to Bogie56's topic in General Discussions
I agree, Hibi. The ending (with Joan Bennett on the phone talking to husband) really gets me. I also liked THE DEEP END which was adapted from the same source. -
