  1. I did some research and the Merrie Melodies cartoon that includes the parody of THE PETRIFIED FOREST is titled "She Was An Acrobat's Daughter." The 1937 cartoon, set in a movie theater, shows an audience watching "The Petrified Florist" starring Bette Savis and Lester Coward.
  2. Did anyone check out THE CEREMONY when finally aired on May 4? I DVRed it to watch later.
  3. Thanks for this information. It was interesting that there were no f-bombs in WHO's AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF? Althought that movie is the one that is said to have broken the "language barrier" that word was still off limits apparently. They even changed the line "Screw you" that was in Edward Albee's play.
  4. The Season 3 finale of BATES MOTEL was fantastic! That show does a great job of paying homage to the dialogue and images from PSYCHO. And even though most viewers know where the story is ultimately leading, this prequel continues to be compelling. When Norman became "Mother" in the final scenes I loved the way it was done alernating between Freddie Highmore and Vera Farminga playing the role. I only saw the movie PSYCHO for the first time relatively recently. As I've stated before, I wish I could have seen it with no knowledge of the twists.
  5. I recently checked out the book Laura from the local library. While I've read a lot about the book in my research on the movie, I had never actually read the book itself. One section of the book consists of a transcript of a police interview of Shelby Carpenter (the character played by Vincent Price in the movie). It's interesting that Vera Caspary chose not to make Shelby one of the novel's multiple narrators. Perhaps her reason was to throw suspicion on him as the murderer. Or perhaps she didn't think he'd make an interesting narrator as Waldo, Laura or Mark.
  6. I'll try to give THE PARTY a chance. PS. "There is no gender here" (a line from a movie) but I am a dude.
  7. Happily I have never seen I LOVE YOU ALICE B. TOKLAS. I don't care for Peter Sellers at all, but I know he has his fans.
  8. I liked the Matt Damon movie before I saw PLEIN SOLEIL. Both movies deviate from the book a great deal.
  9. James Dean's "I have the bullets!" always tears my heart out.
  10. There's a parody of THE PETRIFIED FOREST in one of the Warner Brother cartoons. If I recall the cartoon shows characters watching a movie. "The Petrified Florist" is playing.
  11. Did TikiKid elaborate on what made her love the movie?
  12. I've heard rumors for years that a WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? musical was in the works.
  13. I think she (Gladys Cooper) was also Irene Dunne's mother-in-law in a movie that aired on TCM recently--- the one where Irene Dunne plays an American married to a British man.
  14. Don't forget Greg's song: "Ponies never ran before . . ."
  15. I'm looking forward to seeing TROG for the first time. I think it's Joan Crawford's last movie so it would be interesting for that reason alone but the story looks like a hoot. A few years ago there was a production in Chicago called TROGG: THE MUSICAL (I think they spelled it with 2 g's for legal reasons).
  16. Yes, the opening with the rain was done extremely well. I also was angry about Sadie's "thank offering" but Joan Crawford did a good job showing how broken Sadie was at that moment..
  17. Didn't she also play Henry Higgins's mother in MY FAIR LADY? I always thought Rex Harrison looked too old to be her son or maybe she looked too young.
  18. In some ways the Hollywood version (with Matt Damon as Ripley) is truer to the book. than PLEIN SOLEIL (PURPLE NOON). However, that movie depicted Ripley (Matt Damon) in a relationship with a man. in none of the Ripley books did he ever act on any of his homosexual impulses.
  19. SUSAN SLADE is that movie where the baby catches on fire and you can tell it's a doll burning, right?
