I've only requested two movies on the Suggest A Movie page.
I'm still waiting . .. .
I'm not going say what movies lest I jinx it.
I will say that I did not request HOT SPELL.
However, I am becoming increasingly interested in seeing that one.

There's a parody of THE PETRIFIED FOREST in one of the Warner Brother cartoons.
If I recall the cartoon shows characters watching a movie.
"The Petrified Florist" is playing.

I did some research and the Merrie Melodies cartoon that includes the parody of THE PETRIFIED FOREST is titled "She Was An Acrobat's Daughter."
The 1937 cartoon, set in a movie theater, shows an audience watching "The Petrified Florist" starring Bette Savis and Lester Coward.

Did anyone check out THE CEREMONY when finally aired on May 4?
I DVRed it to watch later.

I believe it was MASH (1970).
However, it was spoken in several other movies that came out that year, so it could've been one of them. But I do believe it was MASH.
Thanks for this information.
It was interesting that there were no f-bombs in WHO's AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?
Althought that movie is the one that is said to have broken the "language barrier" that word was still off limits apparently.
They even changed the line "Screw you" that was in Edward Albee's play.

The Season 3 finale of BATES MOTEL was fantastic!
That show does a great job of paying homage to the dialogue and images from PSYCHO.
And even though most viewers know where the story is ultimately leading, this prequel continues to be compelling.
When Norman became "Mother" in the final scenes I loved the way it was done alernating between Freddie Highmore and Vera Farminga playing the role.
I only saw the movie PSYCHO for the first time relatively recently.
As I've stated before, I wish I could have seen it with no knowledge of the twists.

personally, I don't think I will ever forget when I read "Laura."
I recently checked out the book Laura from the local library.
While I've read a lot about the book in my research on the movie, I had never actually read the book itself.
One section of the book consists of a transcript of a police interview of Shelby Carpenter (the character played by Vincent Price in the movie).
It's interesting that Vera Caspary chose not to make Shelby one of the novel's multiple narrators. Perhaps her reason was to throw suspicion on him as the murderer. Or perhaps she didn't think he'd make an interesting narrator as Waldo, Laura or Mark.

Dude, see 'The Party' (1968).
I'll try to give THE PARTY a chance.
PS. "There is no gender here" (a line from a movie) but I am a dude.

I just requested Hot Spell in SUGGEST A MOVIE. If TCM does ever show it, it better be worth all the posts LOL

I must admit I am curious to see HOT SPELL.

Happily I have never seen I LOVE YOU ALICE B. TOKLAS.
I don't care for Peter Sellers at all, but I know he has his fans.

Unfortunately I believe that, in opening the door to Drew, it can deteriorate into just a Drew bashing thread with some posters, rather than a more thoughtful conversation comparing the Barrymores.
Yes, no Drew bashing please

I wish I had seen Plein Soleil so I could compare the two. I really like the Damon version and feel it is a well made movie with fine acting and great location scenes. Maybe one needs to watch a film for more than 2 minutes before judging it?
I liked the Matt Damon movie before I saw PLEIN SOLEIL.
Both movies deviate from the book a great deal.

I'd have to say that Rebel Without a Cause is my favorite in the James Dean trilogy.
I do agree that it seems unlikely that James Dean would have had trouble making friends and meeting girls. I know if I were Natalie Wood in that movie, I would have dumped that creep Buzz in a hot second and hooked up with Dean-- he was way more attractive.
Anyway, I digress.
I really like 'Rebel' because of the relationship between the three young leads: Dean, Wood and Sal Mineo. In the beginning, Wood is kind of lame because she's part of the gang that picks on Dean and she treats him like crap in the beginning, but she is soon drawn to him. Perhaps because she senses a vulnerability in him, or perhaps he is so different from the guys that she usually hangs out with, or maybe she realizes that she has something in common with him--issues at home. Dean's parents are constantly bickering and it frustrates him and makes him feel betrayed, even more so when Dean's father can't stand up for himself against Dean's overbearing mother; Wood is feeling like her father doesn't care about her anymore because she's growing up, she dresses up in racy clothes, wears makeup and hangs around with a bad crowd in an effort to get attention. Mineo also feels a kinship with Dean-- he also has problems at home. He feels abandoned by his parents, due to his father leaving and his mother being away from home most of the time. He is left in the care of the housekeeper often.
What I love about this film, is how the three kids, who feel like outcasts in their own families, are drawn to one another and basically form their own "family." I love the scene where Dean, Wood and Mineo are in the abandoned mansion (which I believe is Norma Desmond's mansion from Sunset Boulevard) pretending to be a family. Dean and Wood are the parents and Mineo is their child.
While some find Dean's teen angst to be over the top, I really enjoy his performance in 'Rebel.' It's got a few funny parts, some interesting lead actors and character actors and is a good story about emotional struggles that many teenagers go through.
It's a shame that Dean died so young. While his young death after three films is probably a large reason for his allure, almost 60 years later, I feel that had he been able to live and make more films, he would have eventually matured and been a very interesting actor. I could see him having a Paul Newman type career with a combination of intense dramatic films and perhaps some light hearted ones as well.
James Dean's "I have the bullets!" always tears my heart out.

Speaking of blank air time, I came across something new on the 'telly' while here in the UK. It is called 'soft tv.' Ever heard of it?
On one program they just have pov's from boats going down the canals with tranquil music and no voice-overs.
Sort of like looking at a firelog. It is supposed to be an alternative to all the other frenetic (garbage) on television.
Interesting concept

Last night we attended a screening of RANDOM HARVEST. This was touted as a "requested" film and many in our audience were excited to see this new restoration. It did look wonderful, Greer Garson is a gem, especially in her mini skirt kilt. I was hoping seeing it with an audience might bring a new enjoyment of this story, which I always found preposterous.
Confirmed: I hate this movie.
I was surprised MrTiki felt exactly the same way as I did-this was his first viewing and I didn't say a WORD about my impressions of it. TikiKid loved it.
Ronald Coleman is awful, I cannot warm up to him. I realize his charactor is confused, but he will just about do anything any woman suggests. Amnesia shouldn't make you stoopid. The story is far fetched until Garson decides to be his secretary to be "near" him. Then it falls into ridiculous. It should have been edited about 15 minutes shorter, I could feel the audience losing patience with the story near the end. Some were hoping he'd get hit by another car and be done with it.
Did TikiKid elaborate on what made her love the movie?

Mommie Dearest might make for an interesting Broadway Musical, don't you think?
I've heard rumors for years that a WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BABY JANE? musical was in the works.
-
I believe she did. I think she's also Judy Garland's aunt (but a mother type) or something like that in The Pirate.
I think she (Gladys Cooper) was also Irene Dunne's mother-in-law in a movie that aired on TCM recently--- the one where Irene Dunne plays an American married to a British man.

My coworker (who grew up watching the show when it was new, lol) and I (who saw it a zillion times in reruns on Nick at Nite and TBS) like to taunt each other with "Baby talk, Baby talk it's a wonder you can walk." Which usually follows with "You stop that Buddy Hinton!"
We also like to say Greg Brady's classic line, "Kids. What do they know about life?" when someone says or does something dumb.
Don't forget Greg's song: "Ponies never ran before . . ."

Trog- This sounds amazing
I'm looking forward to seeing TROG for the first time.
I think it's Joan Crawford's last movie so it would be interesting for that reason alone but the story looks like a hoot.
A few years ago there was a production in Chicago called TROGG: THE MUSICAL (I think they spelled it with 2 g's for legal reasons).

Lewis Milestone's direction, and Joan Crawford's and Walter Huston's performances, were IMO much superior to the later version. Even before we see the main characters there is the rain starting to fall, then turning into a torrent -- then the Marines slogging through the mud and singing.
The only scene that put me off was Crawford deciding to go to jail as a "thank offering." I almost barfed when that happened; I couldn't believe that Sadie would have said or done such a thing. But the rest was first rate.
Yes, the opening with the rain was done extremely well.
I also was angry about Sadie's "thank offering" but Joan Crawford did a good job showing how broken Sadie was at that moment..

That was Gladys Cooper, who plays a similar mother to Deborah Kerr in SEPARATE TABLES
Didn't she also play Henry Higgins's mother in MY FAIR LADY?
I always thought Rex Harrison looked too old to be her son or maybe she looked too young.
