I've seen an interview with her where she had nothing but genuine praise for Kubrick.
.
I found this clip on YouTube of Shelley Duvall talking about Kubrick's use of 18mm lens in THE SHINING.

Did DARK OF THE SUN air during the tribute to Rod Taylor after his death?
-
Reading this thread I wish I had seen some of the movies that aired on his Summer Under The Stars day.
I've only seen Warren Oates in BADLANDS as Sissy Spacek's father.

On FMC (all times eastern):
Tuesday, 9/1:
4 am: THE SHERIFF OF FRACTURED JAW (1958)..........................6 am: LLOYDS OF LONDON (1936)...........................8 am: BRIGHAM YOUNG (1940)..........................10 am: WHITE FEATHER (1955)........................11:45 am: SIERRA BARON (1958)..............................1:15 pm: THE SHERIFF OF FRACTURED JAW (1958)...........
LLOYD'S OF LONDON is a good movie starring a very young Tyrone Power.
TCM has aired it at least once---that's where I first saw it..

I wonder if J. D. Salinger's heirs will sell him out and sell the movie rights to The Catcher In The Rye.

Lorna - has the "announcer lady" been let go? I hadn't heard her for at least a couple of weeks (it's got to be the same person we are talking about - the one who did the month highlights) and I had hoped she was just on vacation or something nice. Has this been discussed on the boards elsewhere?
I am a little in shock - she was a big part of TCM. If she is gone, I will miss her.
I've noticed for the past 2 months that the woman who says "Hi, this is your movie news for [insert month]" doesn't say "Hi" with the same inflection as she used to.
Her voice sounds a bit deeper too, but I think it's the same person.

NEXT TIME I MARRY starring Lucille Ball is scheduled to air on TCM on September 16.
It's an RKO movie from 1938.

Luckily Hitch did not have Marion Crane [another bird symbol obviously] killed while seated on the porcelain edifice, or viewers would say they couldn't function on it for months afterward either which could have created some real problems for their innards. I've seen this movie on the big screen many times and it is always a thrill.
You probably already know that PSYCHO was the first mainstream movie to show a toilet on screen . . . and it was actually flushed!
GASP!

Dear god, Holden, that was hilarious, thank you. I laughed all the way through it, both parts 1 and 2. S'pose it helps if you've seen A Stolen Life.
I was amused by the way that the twins (both played by Carol Burnett) carried on a conversation with each other.
And the way the boat accident (which was actually shown in the movie) was described in the parody by the aunt as she watched through the window with her binoculars.

Thank you so much for posting the photo of Oscar Issac as Poe Dameron in STARS WARS THE FORCE AWAKENS 2015. My son is a huge Stars Wars fan. He has attended a few of the Stars Wars conventions. Today is the release date of the Stars Wars toys and merchandise. I started buying the Stars Wars figures when my son was a little boy, and he is now 43. I have only seen Oscar in A MOST VIOLENT YEAR 2014, and the HBO mini series SHOW ME A HERO 2015. The guy knocked my socks off. Handsome, the right age, and a great actor. I wonder if Jessica has any comedic talent. They attended classes together at Juillard, and made a wonderful match in A MOST VIOLENT YEAR. Jessica recommended Oscar for the part after Benito del Toro left. A trade paper I read suggested Margo Martindale as Ethel and J.K. Simmons as Fred Mertz.
You're welcome, sapphiere.
Yes, today was the day that the new STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS toys were "unboxed."
I wonder if Oscar Isaac has an action figure of himself as Poe Dameron?

For a second I thought this was another thread about Sally Fields.

Last night I watched THE CHANGELING 1980 in the dark. What a creepy engrossing movie which should have been scheduled next month on TCM.
Yes, I wish TCM would air THE CHANGELING. I agree it would be a good movie to air in October.
There's no article so it appears that it's never aired on TCM.
It's another movie that also stars Trish Van Devere, George C. Scott's wife.

Was this movie ever available on Netflix?

I love THE DAY OF THE DOLPHIN, another movie that TCM introduced me to.
It stars George C. Scott and his wife Trish Van Devere (who plays his wife in the movie).
"Pha loves Pa." ---- it gets me every time

What star is mentioned?
Watch the video of Cher's cover.
All will be revealed . . . down in the Jungle Room.

I've seen an interview with her where she had nothing but genuine praise for Kubrick.
The featurette shows people who are probably pretty tired in the middle of the night and a bit on edge. Something that happens to the best of people. Being celebrities, everything is magnified.
I will look for that interview with Shelley Duvall where she talks about Kubrick.

hopefully now there's a chance TCM will show Bakshi's American Pop ('81) (probably my fav from him)
Yes, I'd love fot TCM to air AMERICAN POP.
Here's a powerful clip from the movie:

I worry though, every time the name KUBRICK comes up, things escalate and we're all not speaking to one another. He tears us apart, which is exactly what he loved. Stanley was a torturer, but a slow, methodical one. I highly recommend the bonus making-of featurette on THE SHINING DVD wherein they have clips of Shelley Duval- who has always struck me as being a pretty mellow chick, about to f-ing CUT Stanley she is so fed up with his crap. Seriously: it's great.)
.
I'll have to look for the featurette. I'd love to see Shelley Duvall strike back at Kubrick. Reading about how he emotionally abused and belittled her so she'd be broken in his movie made me angry.

When I read the announcement, my initial thought was Cate Blanchett can act, and Aaron Sorkin knows how to write a script. Two plusses, and now the film needs a Desi. Oscar Issac immediately came to my mind. He sings, plays guitar, and has won rave reviews for INSIDE LEWELLYN DAVIS 2013, A MOST VIOLENT YEAR 2014, and the recently broadcast SHOW ME A HERO 2015 on HBO. His parents are from Guatamala, but he grew up in Miami. Yes Oscar does speak Spanish, and he will play Poe Dameron in STARS WARS THE FORCE AWAKENS 2015.
I think Oscar Isaac would be a good choice to play Desi Arnaz.
Here he is as Poe Dameron in the upcoming STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS:

How about...Walking In Memphis, Marc Cohn ????
"Then I'm walking in Memphis
I was walking with my feet ten feet off of Beale
Walking in Memphis
But do I really feel the way I feel?"
Yes.
I also like Cher's cover of Cohn's song.

Late tonight for.................MUSIC BY LEONARD ROSENMAN:

I wonder if Bakshi ever intended to do a second movie to complete the story?

Here's a funny parody of A STOLEN LIFE from THE CAROL BURNETT SHOW.
In the parody (called "A Swiped Life") Carol Burnett plays the twins that Bette Davis played in the movie.

Same name, but NOT the same person.....

I met someone named Rod Stewart once (not the singer).
He didn't ask my opinion of his sexiness.
