Richard Harris's use of guyliner in CAMELOT was before its time.

Vanessa Redgrave is absolutely the reason to see the movie CAMELOT. I love, love, love her in this movie! Julie Andrews is a better singer, but Vanessa Redgrave is the definitive Guinevere for me.

I hope it doesn't disappear from the schedule this time.

When did Sharif say that about Streisand?

Yes, Franco Nero's singing was dubbed in CAMELOT. He and Vanessa Redgrave fell in love during the making of the movie. They drifted apart but reunited relatively recently and are now married (although the marriage is not "legally binding" by their choice). http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/culturenews/7817915/Vanessa-Redgrave-speaks-about-marriage-to-second-husband-for-the-first-time.html

Here's the GOOD MORNING MISS BLISS opening:

I think Vanessa Redgrave is very good in CAMELOT. The score, of course, was transposed to suit her range. Her interpretations of the songs are wonderful. She knows just where to "talk" the lyrics. She has a beautiful speaking voice and is brilliant actor.

Maybe TCM could have a Tor Johnson day during Summer Under The Stars.

Self banning Dukes of Hazard ,wrong!

Yes, "Hollywood" is about giving movie audiences and television viewers what they've demonstrated that they want to see. "Hollywood" is about producing what will sell movie tickets and bring in the ratings and hence advertising dollars. -
I suspect that TOR BOAT didn't make the list largely because Ava Gardner's singing was dubbed.

Yikes, Hibi. The coldness of your words nearly froze my hand when I clicked on your post.

I would have loved to have been in the audience during the performance of PATTI LUPONE GYPSY where Patti LuPone stopped "Rose's Turn" to yell at the person taking pictures, who was eventually removed from the theater. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WruzPfJ9Rys

Yes, Frazey Ford has a unique voice and a unique singing style absent of that very tiresome quality that is so emulated by AMERICAN IDOL contestants and brings applause from the audience and judges on that show.

Profit has always been the driving force behind "Hollywood." I don't forsee "Hollywood" ever abandoning the capitalist model in favor of the socialist model that you are proposing. -
On the subject of recycled music, Frank DeVol recycled the musical stinger that accents the moment in THE LEGEND OF LYLAH CLARE when Elsa steps into Lylah's footprints outside Grauman's Chinese Theater (and other dramatic moments in the movie) for THE BRADY BUNCH Hawaii episodes. This bit of music ("Oo-ee-oo-ee-oo WAH!") is used to accent the tiki statue that brought the Bradys so much bad luck, including Greg's near-fatal surfing wipeout and Alice's back injury during her hula lesson.

Thanks for sharing this song and introducing us to Frazey Ford. Such a unique voice like the late Amy Winehouse. The lyrics of "Done" must have been inspired by real experience. "My joy takes nothing from you" is especially powerful. It's amazing to see relationships where one partner is truly bothered by seeing the other one experiencing happiness.

No, don't bring back DUKES OF HAZZARD to TVLand. Instead, bring back good shows to TVLand and Nick At Nite like THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW, I LOVE LUCY and of course BEWITCHED. -
Great Movie Performances By Child Actors
HoldenIsHere replied to HoldenIsHere's topic in General Discussions
Airing as a TCM Import om July 12 (actually early July 13) is IVAN's CHILDHOOD, which features a great performance by Nikolai Burlyayev (credited as Kolya Burlyayev) in the title role. -
Here's the STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS behind-the-scenes reel that J. J. Abrams recentrly unveiled at Comic-Con 2015 in San Diego: Director J.J. Abrams, producer and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and writer Lawrence Kasdan were joined on stage by cast members Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and (to the surprise and delight of the audience) Harrison Ford. Ford, making his first public appearance since his plane crash in March left him hospitalized and injured, assured the audience and host Chris Hardwick that he was fine. The already excitable crowd exploded when Ford, the last to be introduced, walked out. Seated next to Hamill, the gruff Ford was not hesitant to talk about his reluctance to revisit the world of "Star Wars" and the character of Han Solo. "It should have felt ridiculous, it was 30 years ago," Ford said. "I sort of grew up." He never thought that he'd do another film after the original trilogy. "I was very gratified when I read the script because I read something that I thought was really remarkable, really well-written and with some very intriguing developments," Ford said. "I was delighted to be involved and I was very happy to be part of the story and the cast again." "The Force Awakens," which hits theaters on Dec. 18, picks up about 30 years after the events of "Return of the Jedi." Before fans were treated to the "Star Wars" veterans, they were introduced to the newcomers on the light side of the force and, for the first time, those on the dark side. Adam Driver, Gwendoline Christie and Domhnall Gleeson were on hand representing the bad guys. As the mysterious three-pronged lightsaber-wielding Kylo Ren, Driver tried to skirt any questions about his character. Gleeson, whose character's name was revealed to be General Hux, didn't hesitate to say that he was evil. While talking about getting the role, Gleeson accidentally "spoiled" the name of his command station, much to the dismay of Abrams. Christie, who plays the chrome stormtrooper Captain Phasma, talked about how neat it was to be playing a character in full costume who is "not about the way she looks in the flesh." from Lindsey Bahr at AP

Yes, what exactly does it mean when this or that "image extension" is not "allowed in this community"? I've had to abandon a few really good images in a post due to that alert.

HITS & MISSES: Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow on TCM
HoldenIsHere replied to Bogie56's topic in General Discussions
You're welcome, mr6666. I'm glad you gave the movie a chance and that you enjoyed it. I'm a big fan of Leonardo DiCaprio as an actor so I'm surprised when some people say that they avoid his movies. I think perhaps they associate him with TITANIC, the big movie that made him a "star." While I do enjoy TITANIC, DiCaprio's role in that movie is not a typical one for him. He is one the few American movie actors who consistently takes chances with his movie work, rather than just turning in the "personality" performances that we get from most American movie actors. And his film work has always been at this level, even back when he was still quite young. Have you seen him in THIS BOY'S LIFE, which also stars Robert DeNiro as his stepfather? I highly recommend this movie as an example of the fantastic early work of Leonardo DiCaprio. -

As I mentioned in another post. I could totally relate to DiCaprio as Hughes not wanting to touch the washroom door in that scene from THE AVIATOR. It is frustratingg to wash one's hands in a public washroom and then have to touch the door handle! Paper towels and hand sanitizer have come to my rescue on many occasions so luckily I've never been trapped in the washroom like in the movie. -

I liked Leonardo DiCaprio a lot in THE AVIATOR but (while I like Cate Blanchett as an actor very much ---- I wish a recording of her stage performance as Blanche DuBois in A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE would be released or broadcast) I did not care much for her as Katharine Hepburn. The Academy obviously thought otherwise since she was given an Oscar for it. I think she did a good job with Hepburn's speech pattern and I liked the scene with her outside the door when Hughes was having his meltdown, but for the most part I did not care for her in that movie. Then again I'm not much of a fan of Katherine Hepburn either.
