I loved Ethel Merman on the episode of THE LUCY SHOW called "Ethel Merman and the Boy Scout Show." It always cracks me up that the Cub Scouts (Lucy's son Jerry is a member of the Danfield troop) are clamoring for Ethel Merman of all people to sing at their charity show. THE LUCY SHOW is another one of my favorite Nick At Nite shows. I have all 6 seasons on DVD.

Here's a clip from one of my favorite episodes of BEWICHED, "Hippie Hippie Hooray." Samantha is pretending to be Serena.

Many have suggested I MARRIED A WITCH and BELL, BOOK AND CANDLE as inspiratons for BEWICHED. While these works also deal with love relationships between witches and mortals, the love in BEWITCHED is not the result of a potion or spell as it is in the other two works. The witch in BELL, BOOK AND CANDLE does eventually fall in love with the mortal "for real," but the love between Samantha and Darrin on BEWITCHED was never due to the use of magic on Samantha's part.

I have recorded TROG but have not yet watched it yet. I'm looking forward to this one. I watched INSIDE DAISY CLOVER today in "real time." I enjoy this movie a lot.

Right, Mr. Gorman. Today's audience will be much more familiar with Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha (and Serena) on BEWITCHED than with in any of her dramatic work in film or on television. At one point BEWITCHED was the highest rated show on NIck At Nite. I've sought out her work on YouTube because I'm a fan of BEWITCHED. I will admit to owning 2 great books written by Herbie J. Pilato: Bewitched Forever: The Immortal Companion to Television's Most Magical Supernatural Situation Comedy and Twitch Upon a Star: The Bewitched Life and Career of Elizabeth Montgomery. I recommend these books to fans of BEWITCHED and Elizabeth Montgomery.

What no TORTIGO? Surely one of the blank entries is for TORTIGO. And what's up with FROM HERE TOR ETERNITY appearing twice on the list?

There was an adaptation of A KISS BEFORE DYING starring Matt Dillon from the 1990s that I liked. That version also featured Max Von Sydow and Diane Ladd. Sean Young had the female lead. I admit I'm not much of a Robert Wagner fan.

Supposedly, some audience members laughed at Marilyn Monroe's emotional scene about the horses during the original release of THE MISFITS. Today, the raw emotional power of her acting in that scene is recognized and appreciated.

Yes, the couple's planned honeymoon to Japan, Hong Kong and Honolulu ended after only a day or so in Tokyo. In an interview later in life, Ernest Borgnine disclosed the details of the honeymoon. He was well known overseas while Ethel Merman was not. The more that Borgenine was recognized the more hurt and angry Merman became. According to Borgenine, Merman took her hurt out on him.

Burt Lancaster said that Shirley Booth was the greatest actress he'd ever worked with. During the making of COME BACK LITTLE SHEBA, Booth remarked that the most of the time she could see Lancaster acting but that once in awhile he would hit a "note of truth" in his performance and she believed that one day he would be a great actor.

September 2015 SCHEDULE NOW AVAILABLE
HoldenIsHere replied to HoldenIsHere's topic in General Discussions
Maybe September 2015 will finally be Linda Darnell's month, Arturo. I'd also love to see a tribute to Jane Greer, but I don't know if there are enough movies for Jane to be Star of the Month. -

Dracula Dies: Christopher Lee has Passed Away

Yes, Christopher Lee was great as Count Dooku. The look on his face when Palpatine tells Anakin to kill him! -
I've never read Ethel Merman's autobiography, but I think it's funny that the chapter tilted "My Marriage to Ernest Borgnine" is just a single blank page.

RICH'S MADE-UP TCM GENERAL DISCUSSION POLLS

My favorite Gary Cooper lines were in WINGS. -
I'm a huge BEWITCHED fan. I grew up watching Nick At Nite and have all 8 seasons with unedited episodes on DVD. I love Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha and, of course, as Serena. After the end of BEWITCHED, Elizabeth Montgomery apparently never played any more comedic roles, focusing instead on very heavy dramatic parts. There are some clips of her on You Tube as Lizzie Borden that are really good.

What's the matter with kids today? . . .

Until I read the linked article, I thought your post was about that Fran Drescher show from the 1990s. -
I hope TCM airs a good print of SKIPPY.

I caught MEAN STREETS this week. Wow! DeNiro and Keitel blew me away. NIGHTMARE ALLEY is on the DVR now waiting for me. I've been looking forward to seeing this movie for a long time.

Kim Basinger is extremely underated as an actor. She excels in both dramatic and comedic roles. Did anyone catch NADINE on TCM when it aired during the Robert Benton tribute? She cracks me up every time she says "Vernon Hightower" in that movie .

Thanks, Randy, for posting information about this contest. I'm wondering why Canadians aren't eligible but maybe it's because a prize is being awarded.

September 2015 SCHEDULE NOW AVAILABLE
HoldenIsHere replied to HoldenIsHere's topic in General Discussions
Yes, I was also surprised to see how versatile Fred MacMurray was. I really liked him in A MILLONAIRE FOR CHRISTY. That movie also features a great performance by Eleanor Parker, another actor that I was introduced to by TCM. -
Hopefully TCM's schedule for September 2015 will be available online soon. Does anyone have any guesses (or hopes) about who the Star of The Month will be for September 2015?

The scene where Mark questions Bessie for the first time was on when I was getting ready to leave for work this morning.
