I'm not sure. I saw the movie once when I was rather young. Maybe I need to watch it again from an adult's perspective. My mother's exasperation at "dead people coming back to life" stuck with me more than the movie. Probably the reason I thoiugh that both John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson were killed was because my mother definitely said "dead people."

Does Ava Gardner discuss the psychological abuse she suffered from Artie Shaw in the book? I've read interviews with her where she talks about how he would belittle and demean her. In one interview she said the emotional abuse from Artie Shaw hurt her more than the physical abuse from George C. Scott.

I hope the TCM message board drops post counts and views. Why does that information need to be displayed? It's not like there's any money being paid to the posters per post or per view. I'll take quality over quantity any day.

Yes, I was reading Vera Capary's novel Laura that was the basis of the movie. I've read a lot about he book and have read excerpts but have never read the book itself. I'm thinking That Girl and Phil will take my attention away from Laura for awhile, but That Girl and Phil will probably be a fast read.

Yeah I think maybe you're right that it was just Travolta who killed and then "was alive again" in PULP FICTION. I've only seen the movie once.

That Girl and Phil is now awaiting pickup by me at the library. I'll probably pick it up tomorrow.

I've seen parts of THE MATCHMAKER when it aired on PBS, but I've never seen the movie in its entirety. I would love for TCM to air it.

I wish people would take Liza'a advice: Don't drop bombs, baby. Don't drop bombs. Just stay calm, baby. No more bombs . . .

When I saw Shirley Booth in the opening scene of COME BACK, LITTLE SHEBA I felt like I was watching someone living her life not an actor speaking scripted dialogue. And I too hope HOT SPELL is aired as on TCM one day.
-
Her first scene where she showed the room to the boarder really pulled me in. It was like watching a real person not a movie character.

Shirley Booth truly blew me away in COME BACK LITTLE SHEBA. She was like a real person existing in the scripted world of a movie. When her character told the mailman about her husband's drinking problem I reacted to her as if she was a real person, not a character in a movie. "Why did you do that?"

Thanks for this information, NipkowDisc. I truly want to see HOT SPELL now and you are the one who brought the existence of this movie to my attention.

That's a good price too. I wonder what the quality of the DVD is.

The issue is not the review . It's linking the wrong review to a movie on the schedule.

I like Marlo Thomas but still think the book will be fun.

RICH'S MADE-UP TCM GENERAL DISCUSSION POLLS
HoldenIsHere replied to scsu1975's topic in General Discussions
I think that is the answer. -
I would love to see a tribute to Shirley Booth, but I'm not sure if there are enough movies with her to support a Star Of The Month tribute. One movie I'd like to see on TCM is THE MATCHMAKER, based on the play by Thormnton Wilder and the basis for the musical HELLO, DOLLY! Shirley Booth played Dolly Levi. Anthony Perkins is also in THE MATCHMAKER. This movie has aired on PBS before, but I don't think it's ever aired on TCM.

I just placed a hold on That Girl and Phil at my local library. My mother had a copy (I remember her laughing hysterically when reading it) but I don't know what happened to it. I think my grandmother had a copy too.

It's a great movie. It's not airing on Shelley Winters's Summer Under The Stars day either.
