I read that she supposedly said about FRIDAY THE 13TH that no one will want to see "this sh*t" but the movie was a big hit. Her commitment to role of Jason's mother (that is, her not just phoning in the performance) helped make the movie memorable.

Yes, it was a very small window indeed. I hope the formatting is corrected for the next airing of BRAINSTORM. As I stated before I don't think this boxing issue was due to the print but rather something that was done in the airing because the first few minutes switched back and forth between letter boxing and window boxing before finally settling on window boxing.

I admit that I do prefer Christian Bale.

Thanks for posting this article. COME BACK, LITTLE SHEBA was a movie that I'd wanted to see for awhile. When it finally aired on TCM a couple of years ago, I was blown away by Shirley Booth's performance in that movie. It was another example where an actor seems to be a real person living in the fictional scripted world of a movie. I had a similar reaction to seeing Anna Magnani in THE ROSE TATTOO. Interstingly, both of those movies also featured Burt Lancaster.

I still smile when I remember my mother's reaction to PULP FICTION. She was really getting into the movie up until the part where Samuel L. Jackson amd John Travolta were alive again in a scene after having been killed in an earlier one. I tried to explain the concept of non-linear narrative to her, but she said "Well that's just dumb."
