  1. East of Eden is one of my favorite films. James Dean was fantastic playing the role of Cal Trask. I also would of loved to see where his career would of gone if he hadn't died young. The best scene in East of Eden would have to be when Cal tries to give the money to his father but he doesn't accept it and feels like he was rejected by him. James Dean shows so much emotion in this scene it is fantastic to watch. I read that he didn't tell Raymond Massey, who plays his father that he was going to grab him like that and then storm off in the scene.
  2. One classic film I still haven't got around to seeing is The Treasure of Sierra Madre. I have heard such great things about the film I definitely want to see it soon.
  3. I saw Sunset Boulevard for the first time a couple weeks ago and loved the film. William Holden and Gloria Swanson give such great performances. I really like how the character Joe gives the audience a narration of what happen to him leading up to his death. One of the best scenes in the film would have to be the ending when Norma Desmond is coming down the staircase, believing that she is on an actual movie set in front of Mr. DeMille. Her famous ending lines is definitely one of the greatest movie quotes.
  4. I just recently watched Bonnie and Clyde in one of my film classes. Before seeing the film, I was apprehensive too because of all the violence. Also I didn't know if I was going to be interested in learning and watching the story of Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow. However, while watching the film I became so interested in what was going on. I thought the movie was really good and had such great performances.
  5. One movie I thought I wouldn't like was The Bicycle Thief. At the time, I was just taking an introductory course in film and didn't know a lot about foreign film. Before watching the movie I thought how interesting could a story about a man losing his bicycle and trying to find it be. However, as I began to watch the movie I became very mesmerized by the story. The movie just looked so realistic to me and I had never seen anything like that prior to it. Another thing that made me love this movie was the actors they used for the father and son in the story. I really liked watching their relationship as the story unfolded. 6. Rear Window is one of my favorite Hitchcock films. James Stewart and Grace Kelly were cast perfectly in their roles. While watching this film, I love how we the audience feels like we are stuck in the apartment with James Stewart's character watching the neighborhood with him. One of my favorite scenes is when Grace Kelly's character Lisa, sneaks into Thorwald's apartment to try to find anything to do with him killing his wife. Hitchcock does a great job making this scene very suspenseful. The first time I watched this, I remember sitting there anxiously waiting to see if Thorwald was going to find her and what he would do if he did.
  7. It's hard to pick my favorite movie because I love so many of them but if I had to choose it would have to be between The Apartment and Some Like It Hot. One of my favorite actors is Jack Lemmon.
  8. I am really excited about the films they are showing this week. One of the films I can't wait to see is High Sierra that is playing on Tuesday. I have heard great things about this film and have been wanting to watch it for the longest time. Also I am a big fan of Humphrey Bogart so I definietly am going to make sure I watch it.
  9. I think William Holden is a great actor. I wish they were playing Sunset Boulevard today it is such a fantastic film and I think William Holden's performance was excellent. Also I enjoyed watching his performance in the film Sabrina. I am looking forward to seeing him in The Bridge on the River Kwai. Also really want to see him in the film Stalag 17 since I heard it was a really good film and William Holden is great in it too.
  10. I love the ending of the film The Apartment. It was the perfect ending to a great movie with amazing performances by Jack Lemmon and Shirley Maclaine.
  11. A couple of days ago, for the first time, I watched my first Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn film. I have always heard about these two making terrific films together and being a great on-screen couple so I decided to watch them in Adam's Rib. I enjoyed the film very much and found them to have such great chemistry with one another. I decided to also watch their first film together Woman of the Year and enjoyed that one too. Again, I found them to play very well off each other. I know over the years they had made quite a number of films, which ones would you recommend watching?
  12. The other day I watched Mister Roberts for the first time and really enjoyed the film. At first I was hesitant because I thought it wouldn't be interesting watching these men on a boat throughout the whole movie but I really liked it. I felt the performances by the whole cast were great. James Cagney was perfect as the Captain that everyone disliked and Henry Fonda was great as Mister Roberts. My favorite performance of the flim would have to be Jack Lemmon as Pulver. I found Jack Lemmon to be very funny in this film, especially in the scene when the Captain notices him for the first time. Some parts of the film can be a little boring. I think the film though is trying to show how life on the boat for these men can be very long and dull. At the end of the film when Doc tells Mister Roberts that the crew was the one who sent out his transfer to another boat, I thought that was going to make him stay on the ship with them. I was kind of shocked at the end when he actually left for the other ship but I guess that this was his one chance to get off the ship because the Captain otherwise would not have allowed that to happen.
  13. Another couple I feel play well of each other is Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert in the film It Happen One Night. They have a lot of chemistry with one another on-screen and are very funny to watch. Also I like the pairing of Audrey Hepburn and Paul Varjak in Breakfast at Tiffany's. I find them to be a very sweet couple and love them both at the ending of the film. I do like Audrey Hepburn also with Gregory Peck in Roman Holiday. They are another great on-screen pairing that have a lot of chemistry between them.
  14. One of my favorite film songs would have to be Moon River in Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961). Also I love the song Shout performed by Otis Day and the Knights from the film Animal House (1978). The song goes perferctly with the scene where the fraternity is having the toga party. The music is so upbeat and fun for the scene and you can see the characters really enjoying themselves singing and dancing along at the party.
  15. From watching many films over the years, I have become interested in the pairings of certain actors and actresses on-screen. Seeing a great on-screen pairing in a film makes it even more enjoyable to watch. Some of the pairings I enjoyed watching were Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, and Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland. One of the best pairings in my opinion would have to be William Powell and Myrna Loy. I loved watching them two in The Thin Man films because they played very well off one another and had great chemistry. Who do you think are some of the best on-screen pairings in film?
