I am sure that some element of this has appeared at some point on these pages, speed, but I am relatively new, so I am game. As with all the lists I have offered in any category, it is strictly personal, as a fan, not a critic. That is all that matters to me. Therefore, some picks may be curious, but they are mine. I have no problem explaining my choices, but not debating their merits (as with anyone else's picks). Here are mine. Mind you, these are off the top of my head, and could be amended if I think again. I have found narrowing down to "Top 10" in anything has been hard. Good Morning, all! Yep, that's it. I find this fact to be more than mildly amusing. When I visited Westwood, two young tourists were meditating and taking lots of photos at Bettie Page's grave. Since the girl fan was actually crying, I did not think it was appropriate to make light of the "relationship" with her "neighbor" at that time. They say politics makes for strange bed fellows. Well, so do Hollywood cemeteries. Forgive my little digression, Miles. The thread is yours.

I may be able to offer some info that might help, and it is from an unusual source. I do not know if you have MeTV on your cable package, but there is a syndicated weekly horror movie on Saturday nights hosted by a character named "Svengoolie", played by Chicago TV personality Rich Koz. It is patterned after the late night horror hosts that were a staple of local TV stations in the past. They have had a slew of Abbott & Costello comedies lately including "Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein" (1948) with Lugosi as Dracula, Chaney as the Wolfman, and Strange as the Monster since Karloff refused to reprise his role. According to the info on "Svengoolie", the cast members made many personal appearances in character to promote the film. It must have worked because the film did great at the box office, and led to a series of similar Abbott & Costello films after this one. I would not be surprised if your grandfather saw one of these promotional events, which may have been part of a USO bill. I don't know where they got this info, but it is quite a coincidence that this was just on a couple weeks ago.

"The Mask of Fu Manchu"?

A common thread with many of the films that stir my emotions is probably obvious-- the music score. Watching Roy Hobbs round the bases to Randy Newman's rousing score might not be the only reason, but it certainly is a contributor. I mentioned the Sons of the Pioneers in "The Searchers". Another film that does it to me almost entirely because of the score is "Rocky". Bill Conti's music following the final bell always gets the waterworks going for me. I have never seen "All Mine To Give", which is on TCM within the hour. I have DVRd it because I won't be able to stay awake, but I will certainly see if I will be swimming as mrroberts predicts.

Don't do it, kid! The rare moment when someone gets a classic reference without an explanation is priceless. By the way, I suggested putting Porky's Blue Christmas on a continuous loop at work. It drew a few smiles, but no second.

Hint: Regular or semi-regular in several classic sitcoms. Played characters named Charlie, Barney, Steve, Sam among others.

"Hoosiers" has plenty of misty eyed parts. Obviously the ending is one of them, but the scene where Shooter (Dennis Hopper) coaches the team to a victory is enough to stir my emotions every time. As a side bar, Maris Valainis (Jimmy, the best player) had a lot of skills.

This one may be a little too obscure, maybe not, but it is an amusing little piece of useless trivia gathered from the Hollywood cemetery kick I have been on for the last couple years. If I don't hear a correct answer in the next few hours, or even a response, I'll give the answer, okay? Here goes: The famous pin-up girl Bettie Page is buried at Westwood Cemetery in California. What prolific actor, mostly TV, is buried in the plot right next to her with a marker so close that you would swear they were a couple? Not, of course. P.S. Sorry it took so long.
