  1. I absolutely agree with you about the editing. Before complete series were available, the only place to see these shows were in reruns on local stations or Nick at Nite when it came into existence. Occasionally you would find a station that would include most of the original show including the final segment prior to the credits (example: the Andy Griffith epilogues). This was very rare, however. As you probably have noticed, most half hour sitcoms had at least 24 minutes of airtime minus commercials. For most of my childhood, stations aired about 21-22 minutes of show. I am not sure, but it seems like less than that now. That is a lot of entertainment lost, and since you watch the complete versions on DVD, you have noticed the obvious differences. When I am focused, and into the show, the DVD is the way to go as you so adeptly pointed out. However, as you alluded to, for background noise, or as others might equate to "comfort food", I don't mind switching over to MeTV or Antenna when nothing else is on.

  2. My physical gifts allowed me to do a lot of stunt work, too. I have been killed many times including by Robert Mitchum and of course Duke, I've been beaten up by David Carradine, and even embarrassed by Richard Pryor.

  3. David Manners was in "Dracula" with Bela Lugosi

Bela Lugosi was in "Plan 9 From Outer Space" with Gregory Walcott

Gregory Walcott was in "The Sugarland Express" with Ben Johnson

Ben Johnson was in "She Wore a Yellow Ribbon" with John Wayne

John Wayne was in "The Alamo" with Richard Boone

Richard Boone was in "Hombre" with Paul Newman

    Next: Allan Jones

  4. You obviously have a preference for sitcoms, speed. Your list is a good one, and I remember watching most of them along with so many others when I was a kid. Judging by your comments, you are likely much younger than me. So it is really nice to see that there are fans in your generation that appreciate the shows that have in many respects been lost in time. It's unfortunate that many of the shows of the past are dismissed for a variety of reasons, even disavowed by some, who enjoyed them like I did when they were on originally, but are now too sophisticated to admit that they loved them then. I still consider the ones from your list and many others as "go to" entertainment when there is nothing else on. I own some of them on DVD, too.

It is a shame that Nick at Nite is not like it used to be. I don't know if your cable outlet has MeTV or Antenna, which show nothing but old reruns. I am not sure what the deal is, but these "networks" are syndicated, and are picked up with local stations. I have noticed that these have lots of old favorites, but also some others I had never seen in syndication before. Check your cable channels and see if you have it in your market.

Best wishes for your continued TV enjoyment, and future discoveries.

  5. "Ha Ha Ha. I'll have to remember that one"

Got it, emgee! Tough to picture a class act like Olivia with the daffy Joe E. Brown, but hey, everybody has to start somewhere. Good one. For a minute, I was thinking I was gonna have to apply for a dental license on that one. Anyway, time for you to bat out a few. The thread is yours.
