I think one of the most famous examples is Jerry Lewis's The Day the Clown Died, which he starred in, directed, and co-wrote.  He had it locked in a vault, and later gave it to the Library of Congress, stipulating that it would wait years after his death to show it  Film Review: The Day the Clown Cried (1972) | HNN

    Doris Day didn't like the films her ex-hubby/manager signed her to do...without her okay...including Where Were You When the Lights Went Out?    I finally saw this, and...she was right...good cast wasted on series of lame 'mistaken identity' nonsense. which mainly happens in one house outside the historic NYC blackout (that could've been funny...)  Where Were You When the Lights Went Out?
