It was "The Saragossa Manuscript" starring Zbigniew Cybulski, a real surrealist film, from a novel by Jan Potocki.
Incidentally, also surreal is that Cybulski, Poland's James Dean, died at 39 years old after being struck by a train in Poland...
Producer Bryan Foy, upon learning that this movie was too long and that 40 minutes have to be cut, said, "Just throw all the footage up in the air and grab everything but forty minutes."...Film ?
John Huston wanted Orson Welles to play Captain Ahab in the 1956 production of "Moby Dick", but Warners Bros. wanted a big-name actor in the lead, so Gregory Peck was cast (or miscast)...Peck later said he thought he was too young for the role, and that Huston would have made an older and better Ahab...
Actually, I didn't think the movie was too bad (which shows how much I know).
"Dr. Ehrlich's Magic Bullet" is correct... In my opinion, Edward G. Robinson should have been at least nominated for an Oscar for his performance in this movie...Your thread, Dave.
