As a wrap-up comment on this topic, I would like to thank TCM for presenting the virtual film festival. They clearly put a great deal of effort into it, with all of the celebrity interviews, the special introductions, the introductions from the archives, the film premieres, the restored film premieres, and all of the supplementary extras. The amount of material presented was almost overwhelming if you wanted to try to catch it all, which is what I suppose a real film festival is like. Assuming in-person events go back to some kind of normal next year, we probably won’t see this kind of festival on the channel again, as TCM will likely go back to a real film festival that only the attendees will be able to appreciate. I can understand how TCM puts so much work into the festival itself and won’t be as interested in enhancing what is shown on the channel. But after seeing what they did this year it will be sad to not have another virtual film festival for everyone to enjoy.

It appears that the "Méliès Mystery" section of the Film Festival with the documentary and associated shorts including A Trip to the Moon, etc. has already been removed from HBO Max. It's disappointing that all of the special content may not be available through the end of the weekend.

Thanks for posting the comments about the Wuthering Heights intro - I went and watched it on WatchTCM based on your description. Also sorry that they didn't include the Alex Trebek wrap-up. I suspect it is not likely that we will ever get to see that portion again, but you never say never.

The Flicker Alley restoration is really first rate. Agree that it would be nice if TCM can give it the introduction it deserves. I see where this one is now available on WatchTCM for those who want to check it out.

It appears that the film is not available on the WatchTCM West Coast live feed, so consistent with your comment the streaming rights must be locked down. That's unfortunate.

In her introduction this morning, Alicia mentioned that this was the premiere showing on TCM of the restored version of Annie Get Your Gun (1950), and it looks fantastic. This likely corresponds to the recent release of the Warner Archive Collection blu-ray on April 20 of this year. If you missed it and are interested it might show up on WatchTCM later today.

In general HBO Max is not really trying to be "All things TCM all the time" - they are continuously revising their list of classic films in the TCM area. It is more just a sampling of classic films and not meant to be a TCM equivalent, and really just a subset of all the other content they are featuring. I suppose that's good for people that like the variety of the other content from HBO etc., but for those that want to replace TCM it is not really there. The next 4 days will be an interesting change, as there will be quite a bit of additional content on HBO Max for the TCM Film Festival tie-in. There are quite a few titles that are being shown with bonus content just for the duration of the festival, with Bullitt being one of those.

The restored version of Wax Museum is currently showing on the West Coast live feed. Hopefully it will be added to the WatchTCM on-demand list once the live showing completes.

Those twitter messages that TCM posted about the The Big City 1963 are a bit misleading, as the female star of the film is Madhabi Mukherjee, who is featured in the clip, and not Jaya Bachchan. Madhabi Mukherjee is also shown in the image from Charulata that Bogie56 posted above. (Jaya Bachchan does appear in The Big City, but does not have the lead role as is somewhat implied on twitter.) Not sure if anyone really cares about such things but I thought I would mention it.

It’s a shame that they couldn’t at least have Anthony Hopkins give a remote acceptance speech. Of course it would be something like 4 am local time if he was in England, but I suspect he must have been watching. Par for the course the way things have been going for the movies this past year.

There's no in-person festival this year, so TCM is hosting a 'virtual' festival May 6 - 9, with some content on HBO Max as well. Our patience has been rewarded - according to the newly-released schedule for the TCM Classic Film Festival, the restored version of They Won’t Believe Me (1947) will be shown at 8 PM ET on Saturday, May 8. Also of interest, TCM has scheduled the premiere of I Love Trouble (1947) on Saturday, May 8 at 8 AM ET.

The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex (1939) is currently part of the TCM 31 Days of Oscar schedule on Thursday, April 22nd at 6 pm ET, so it will be interesting to see if the newly-restored version is shown at that time.

Wow, did this suddenly get depressing. I guess the next question is what would one pay per month for a streaming version of TCM that was essentially the same, and are there enough people who would pay to justify it. To echo what Yancey said, TCM now seems unique on the list of cable channels in offering some consistent enhancement of content, with the material provided by the hosts and the organization of the schedule into themes. Most other channels are just the shows with nothing extra. So it’s easy to convert them into a library that can be called upon at any time, with the occasional addition and subtraction of available items and a few exclusives. But a library of movies by themselves would be boring compared to what TCM offers today.

It has been strange. I was watching Bullitt on the WatchTCM West Coast live feed, and noticed there was no wrap-up after the film. Shortly thereafter the movie was posted for on-demand streaming, and this version does include Dave's material. I then watched the West Coast live feed for the start of Caged, and no introduction for that either. Perhaps the on-demand version of Caged will include the wraparounds (if it is posted). - Edit: Caged has been posted to WatchTCM on-demand, and it does include Dave's intro and wrap-up.
