Unfortunately TCM has not provided schedule info for February 2021 yet. Possibly in a week or so if we are lucky.

I'm having flashbacks of trying to solve a math problem... 😉

This is the first time for Suspense (1946) on Noir Alley. We do have some other repeats coming up - Tomorrow is Another Day (1951) on 12-5, Detour (1945) on 12-26, and Born to Kill (1947) on 1-23. At least so far when Eddie does a repeat he has been providing new introductory material, so it’s worth watching that portion even for those who have seen the film before.

“The Birds” shown in correct aspect ratio on TCM
cmovieviewer replied to Stephen444's topic in General Discussions
Sorry but since I've seen The Birds many times before I have not been paying attention to how it looked on TCM in the past. The aspect ratio is listed at 1.85 : 1 - has TCM not shown it this way before? Not sure if it is the influence of streaming services, but my impression is that many of the films we see on TCM are being shown in better quality over time. There are some with alternate sources that still don't look as good, but it is nice to see the classics in true HD when they become available. (I did manage to catch some of Psycho late Thursday evening, and it also looked very good.) -

It looks like the online TCM schedule is showing the wrong times for the early morning hours of the Women Make Film series. Here is what’s shown at tcm.com/schedule (times are ET): 3:00a 27 Missing Kisses (2000) 4:45a The Kite (2003) 6:15a My Brilliant Career (1979) 8:00a This is the Sea (1997) 9:45a Heart of a Dog (2015) Here is the corrected schedule (confirmed on cable guide and womenmakefilm.tcm.com/schedule) 3:30a 27 Missing Kisses (2000) 5:15a The Kite (2003) 6:45a My Brilliant Career (1979) 8:30a This is the Sea (1997) 10:15a Heart of a Dog (2015) Sorry this post is probably too late to do anyone much good.

Pitfall (1948) was broadcast as part of Noir Alley on June 17, 2018. If you go back to page 58 of this thread you can pick up where the comments for the film start. Don't see any 'Looney' comments there either, but haven't checked other threads such as 'I Just Watched...'

The premiere of Desperate Living (1977) as part of TCM Underground on November 27 (late) has been replaced with The Fog (1980) (not a premiere). The list of November premieres above has been updated.

A rare afternoon premiere: Thursday Nov. 19 at 5:45 pm ET. The Sea Wolves (1980) From Wikipedia: “The Sea Wolves is a 1980 war film starring Gregory Peck, Roger Moore and David Niven. The Panavision film is based on the book Boarding Party by James Leasor, which itself is based on a real incident which took place in World War II.” info: TCM overview IMDB Wikipedia (spoilers - complete plot summary)

Others have suggested that TCM leases titles as part of package deals to explain some of the films showing up on TCM Underground, so I wonder if Fear (1946) might be part of a similar deal. Did anyone else notice Darren McGavin playing the role of ‘blonde student’ at the 31 minute mark?
-
Anyone setting a DVR for tonight's show should be aware that the run time is 68 minutes (plus time for Eddie's material), in spite of the fact that the on-line schedule is currently listing it at 54 minutes. (Eddie mentioned it was going to be 68 minutes in his wrap-up last weekend.)
-
Just a note for those who might not be aware, on WatchTCM the film is listed by its Spanish title Dos Monjes.

I had wondered if the introduction of the Criterion blu-ray version at the beginning of 2019 might have been a reason for TCM to stop showing Notorious, but the withdrawal seems to have started in 2015 (it has been shown only once in the last 6 years). I also checked the Criterion Channel streaming service, and it appears that Notorious is not currently available to watch there either. The Criterion blu-ray would be the absolute best way to view the film at home, so catching it on sale would be nice. Unless TCM vice president of programming Charles Tabesh or someone in his department suddenly starts participating online, we may never know what is going on with their choices.

You are correct, thanks (has been on several times, my mistake). Removed it from the list.

The Plot Thickens I’m Still Peter Bogdanovich

I believe Notorious (1946) was last shown on TCM in July of 2017 as part of a '50 Years of Hitchcock' Spotlight theme, so it has been a while. For whatever reason, Notorious does not seem to get as many repeat showings on TCM when compared to some of the other Hitchcock classics, and I agree that the upcoming Hitchcock marathon session in November would have been a good time to include it. Maybe next year...

There is a search box on the Daily and Monthly schedule pages you can use to search for movies, but they both have their quirks: - The Daily Schedule search will find movies that are scheduled from today's date and on into the future (the current TCM schedules are defined through the end of December). However, movies that have been shown more than a day ago will not be found (unless they have another showing in the future). - The Monthly Schedule search will find any movie that is scheduled this month, even if it has already been shown. However, it will not find movies that are scheduled after this month. So a search using the Daily Schedule page is the best way to find if a movie of interest is coming up. The Daily Schedule page is at https://www.tcm.com/schedule?icid=mainnav15-daily-schedule

Another web page with photos: Grand Lake Theater photo gallery Looks like Eddie has been stationed somewhere on the 2nd floor shown in the lower left photo. What a beautiful theater.

Premiere was a little before I paid attention to such things but as I recall the few issues I looked at seemed very nice. It's a shame the market for quality magazines isn't what it used to be.
-
I have a subscription - it kept getting extended because they gradually reduced the number of issues per year. Now that it's published monthly instead of weekly it's not really the same (the title doesn't make sense any more). Of course this year the impact to film and tv production has also diminished that aspect of the magazine as well. I still enjoy the printed page but it's a vicious cycle - reduced subscribers produces reduced content produces even less subscribers produces no magazine or a magazine you are no longer interested in.

Daily and Weekly Schedule times are correct again for different time zones. Yay? We'll have to see how long this lasts.
