Dave Karger was the host, the first night was based on his pre-horror films. The lineup was: 8:00p crime Cash on Demand (1961) 9:30p romance The End of the Affair (1955) 11:30p crime Time Without Pity (1957) 1:15a advent John Paul Jones (1959) 3:30a drama Hamlet (1948) For those who have the service, all of these with the exception of Hamlet are available on WatchTCM.

Mentally adjusting from the Eastern time zone is something those of us living in other areas of the country are used to doing as second nature, but the times currently shown on the TCM schedules are not correct for the Eastern time zone. The schedule this morning led off with Vigil in the Night (1940) at 7:30 am Eastern time, but the schedule listed it at 8:30 am. So if you want to do this in your head you must make two adjustments, first fix the Eastern time and then adjust to your own time if in a different time zone. The other time zone settings on the schedule drop down menu produce similar incorrect results - Central, Mountain, and Pacific are all off by an hour. So everything is basically wrong, and that is why for me the change has been so disappointing. It's possible this will fix itself when Daylight Savings Time ends on November 1, but hey even a broken clock is correct two times a day.

The TCM web schedule seems to have gotten even worse, now showing duplicate entries at odd times. Here's the Halloween schedule that I copied before the recent changes (times are ET): SATURDAY Oct 31 TCM DAYTIME - HALLOWEEN HORROR 6:00a horror Freaks (1932) 7:15a horror Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1932) 9:00a horror House of Wax (1953) 10:45a horror Children of the Damned (1964) 12:30p susp Bad Seed, The (1956) 2:45p drama Picture of Dorian Gray, The (1945) 4:45p horror Wolf Man, The (1941) 6:00p horror Haunting, The (1963) TCM PRIMETIME - WHAT'S ON TONIGHT: THE ESSENTIALS: NUCLEAR NIGHTMARES 8:00p comedy Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964) 10:00p horror Them! (1954) 12:00a horror Seventh Victim, The (1943) 1:30a horror I Walked With A Zombie (1943) 3:00a horror Body Snatcher, The (1945) 4:30a susp Leopard Man, The (1943) Sad to say I don't trust the TCM web schedule anymore, and will be double-checking with other sources each day to confirm the shows and start times.

Notes on some upcoming films: On Thursday Oct 8 the primetime theme is '30 Years of the Film Foundation', where TCM is showing films that have been restored. The lineup includes Detour (1945) at 10 pm ET, which was featured on Noir Alley in March of 2017. Criterion came out with a restored version of Detour in March of 2019, so TCM should be presenting this version of the film, which is now in pristine condition. Here is an article on the extensive work that went into the restoration: http://www.film-foundation.org/detour-janus This web page also includes a YouTube clip of Eddie's Noir Alley introduction and wrap-up from 2017. (Eddie has also scheduled a 2nd Noir Alley showing of Detour coming up on December 26.) On Friday Oct 9 the daytime theme is 'San Francisco Noir', where several Noir films are featured. Here is the lineup (times are ET): 7:45a Nora Prentiss (1947) (Noir Alley 6-8-2019) 9:45a Born to Kill (1947) (Noir Alley 7-30-2017) 11:30a Dark Passage (1947) (Noir Alley 7-22-2018) 1:30p Out of the Past (1947) (Noir Alley 6-7-2017) 3:15p Race Street (1948) 4:45p Impact (1949) 6:45p The Woman On Pier 13 (1950)

The TCM web schedule is still showing incorrect times. From other online TV schedule services, The Queen (1968) starts at 2:30 am ET, and Wigstock: The Movie (1995) starts at 3:45 am ET. These times are also confirmed on my cable guide.

11. Speed up the time it takes to load the Daily Schedule page (spinning circle for several seconds). For some reason the Monthly Schedule page seems to load more quickly.
-
I'm seeing several shorts listed in the schedule (see Saturday morning, for example), so item 7. may be OK.

Fortunately we have rough data out through December, so that buys some time for TCM to improve the site to restore some of what we are looking for. I would assume that the members of this message group are some of the heaviest users of the schedule, as we are the serious TCM fans, so I hope they will listen to our opinions and try to improve things.

The TCM At-A-Glance schedule for November 2020 is now available at: http://www.escapepress.com/tcmsched/tcm_overview.html - On this page, click on the At-A-Glance link for November to view the latest pdf file. - You can then use the Save command in your browser to make a local copy. - Information for October is also available (updated with latest schedule changes).

10. Restore ability to query TCM film database for unscheduled films
-
Another thing that seems to be lost in the shuffle is any mention of TCM Underground. There used to be a monthly article that would list and discuss the upcoming Underground films for the month. With links for each film to the database that isn't there any more... (The search box on the schedule page can find entries for films that are currently scheduled, but it doesn't seem to return anything for unscheduled films.)

Here are the major items I can think of so far. Feel free to add on, but perhaps it's best to focus on the really important items for now. 1. Fix times to be correct for the different time zones 2. Remember the last time zone selected when you come back to the schedule 3. List the primetime theme for the day 4. Define the ‘current day’ time period as 6 am ET to 6 am ET of the following date 5. Searching for an actor / director’s name will show a list of scheduled films with that person 6. Provide a means to see the schedule for future months that are available 7. List scheduled shorts

Removed it from the list above. Sometimes I can spot the 'recently shown repeats' but I missed this one.

I'm trying to bite my tongue, but requirement #1 of a TCM web-based schedule is to list the films that are being shown at their correct start times. The fact that the times are not correct for the major U.S. time zones on switchover shows a tremendous lack of care and/or oversight on the part of the people making the change.

Unless I'm missing something, it appears to me that the future schedules we have come to depend on are gone. No more separate monthly schedules for October, November, or December. The daily schedules do go out into the future, but as of today, for example, it ends at October 29. This is very disappointing.
-
I just have partial records back to 2012. I do see it was scheduled twice in December 2012 and 3 times again in December 2013. According to MovieCollectorOH's September report, the total number of showings is 68 (not including this coming December). Has a ways to go to catch up with North by Northwest. 😉
-
Believe it or not, Holiday Affair (1949) has aired on TCM 3 times during December in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. And in 2017 they showed it 2 additional times in August and November as well. Definitely a TCM holiday favorite.
-
As it appears on the web today, They Won't Believe Me is listed at 90 minutes on the Daily schedule, but is also listed at 80 minutes on the Weekly and Monthly schedules. 🙁 Keeping my fingers crossed for the 90-minute version...

"When in Rome" - Wrong Aspect Ratio (Squashed)
cmovieviewer replied to NewYorkGuy's topic in General Discussions
Just a follow-up: The on-demand version of When in Rome ('52) has been posted to WatchTCM with the correct aspect ratio. It will be available there through September 21.
