Hi I'm looking for the Flash Gordon series on DVD, were Charles B Middleton is Ming.
LW
IMDB list Charles Middleton as starring in three Flash Gordon serials: Flash Gordon (1936), Flash Gordon's Trip to Mars (1938), and Flash Gordon Conquers the Universe (1940). TCM has the last one under:
http://shop.tcm.com/flash-gordon-conquers-the-universe/089859880124
Strange that TCM doesn't list Middleton in the "starring" credits, but you can see his picture on the box cover.
Here's the IMDB page where he is listed:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0032475/
I really like the picture of Priscilla Lawson that TomJH posted. Unfortunately IMDB only lists her for the original Flash Gordon series. I couldn't find that one in the TCM Shop, but perhaps I missed it or there are other sources.
Hope that helps.

This is a sample of what we could have been watching this morning.

I'm going off to cry now.

One other thing I wanted to mention for those that may not know - if you click on a movie title in the daily schedule, it will take you to the TCM 'Overview' page for the movie. At the top of the Overview page is a big banner with the movie title which also usually has a list of the upcoming times for the movie. It's another bad sign if there are no times listed there, as was the case this past week for Desert Song. I agree with MovieCollectorOH that hopefully this movie was an exception and we won't see these kind of inconsistent schedule views in the future.

I'm sure there are many of us that are disappointed that several of the rare/premiere films scheduled on TCM over the last months/year have been removed in a similar fashion. Unfortunately it seems as if we'll never know the reasons why and can only keep hoping that they may appear again in the future.

Sepiatone: I grew up in Jackson Michigan and remember Hudson's downtown Detroit. They had a restaurant on the top floor and my grandmother would take me to Detroit for the day (doodle train, a one car combined engine and passenger compartment vehicle) went daily from Jackson to Detroit. We would get out in that gorgeous train station and walk to Hudson's and shop (I always wore a dress, hat, gloves and frilly socks) and then eat lunch. We would see a movie and then be back home. It was so special then and just awesome through the eyes of a 9 year old.
Did Hudson's have the fancy window displays? I think I'm just old enough to remember them at the downtown department store. Assume those are a thing of the past now.

Elevating this up because TCM is now showing MJD several times over the next month. Watched it this morning and the print is wonderful. The next showing is quickly scheduled for late Thursday evening at 2:15am EST. If not convenient for you there are also showings on Dec. 24th and 25th.
Thanks again to DVDPhreak and the others who have commented here on this version. I often criticize TCM but allowing us to see restored movies like this is one of the things they do best – thank you TCM.

To see schedule #4, with shorts added, forward to Dec. 2nd, click on the U.S. flag, then click on "weekly schedule" directly underneath the Canadian flag. This one is minus The Desert Song, but has the George and Gracie Allen short "Lambchops" (1929).
Thanks for the tip, FL293 - that method is showing me all of the shorts throughout the day (Holland, Goofy, etc.). I had not been checking the weekly schedule but instead had been looking at the monthly schedule for more information on the shorts. But the weekly schedule seems to be showing more info than the monthly schedule has. Yet another thing to check in the future...

Looks like we will know more about the prospects for Desert Song by just past 9:15am EST on Friday:
- if When a Man Loves is playing, then we are likely on Schedule A and things are looking up for Desert Song
- if Midnight Alibi is playing, then we are likely on Schedule B and out of luck
Of course, there's the rarely seen Schedule C which follows When a Man Loves with Just Imagine, so we could still be disappointed.
The suspense is building...

catladywdc,
Here are a couple of links that list holiday movies coming up
https://www.tvguide.com/special/holiday-guide/calendar/
http://www.christmastvschedule.com/
Unfortunately the TV Guide page only has specific time and channel information for the next 2 weeks or so, so you have to check later for movies at the end of December.
You may have seen some of the Star of the Month tribute to Natalie Wood being shown on TCM throughout the month of November. I thought it was sad that TCM did not/could not include Miracle on 34th Street in this tribute, likely because of licensing issues.
I also agree that commercial-free is the best experience, so it is disappointing when these classics are only seen on the commercial networks.

The segment I'm referring to comes before the "bathtub scene" . After Gaston storms off and walks a distance singing "She Is Not Thinking Of Me"( I guess) . He then returns hatless to apoliguze, and invites Gigi to tea. He then leaves, picking up a BROWN hat.
Sepiatone
Sorry but my DVD copy of Gigi does not match your recollection. The silver hat does not appear until Gaston visits Gigi at the 1h 10m mark. Gigi is wearing a dress that Gaston does not like. At 1h 12m we see him leave with the hat in hand. He goes down to the car wearing the hat and looks up at Gigi in the window. He returns to the apartment with silver hat in hand at 1h 13m and invites Gigi to tea but Grand Mama forbids it. He has a heated discussion with Grand Mama and before he leaves we see him placing the silver hat and black cane on the entry table. He then storms off with no hat, has the line with his driver, goes to the fountain, sings 'Gigi', goes back to the apartment where the door closes, and after the bath scene he later comes back in a brown outfit with the brown hat. He ends up having another animated discussion with Grand Mama and leaves the apartment with the brown hat and cane at 1h 31m.
Looking from the beginning of the film there is a scene at Gigi's where Gaston is having tea with Grand Mama at 14:38 but no entrance/exits/hats are included. There is a later scene at 33:40 where Gaston is out dining with Zsa Zsa Gabor where he sings "she is not thinking of me" (in his thoughts), but this does not involve a visit to Gigi's apartment. The next scene at Gigi's starts at around 47:29 where Gaston visits wearing a brown outfit where they play cards and sing the "champagne" song, but Gaston does not have a hat when he arrives. After this the action takes place at the beach and we don't see Gaston back at the apartment until the 1h 10m mark. After this sequence described above, there is no silver hat visible throughout the rest of the movie. So it appears to me that the continuity people have done their jobs. Thank heaven.

Sepiatone,
I looked at my Gigi DVD and the sequence you describe starts at about the 1 h 10 m mark. Everything is as you say up to the point where Gaston returns to talk to Gigi's grandmother with "an important business matter to discuss" at about 1:23:48. However, at this point Grand Mama ushers him in, we see the door slowly close, and the movie then cuts to a scene where Grand Mama Alverez is talking about the proposition to Aunt Alva, who is taking a bath. The next time we see Gaston is at about 1:25:50 where he is arriving to formally court Gigi. (At this point he is wearing a different outfit and does indeed have a dark brown hat and cane.)
So from the version on the DVD there is no problem with the silver hat turning into a brown hat.

I think MovieCollectorOH wins the prize for discovering a third version of the Dec. 2 schedule!
However, since Just Imagine (1930) does not seem to fit the daytime themes of 'directed by Alan Crosland' or 'starring Myrna Loy,' it appears TCM is using the random schedule generator again.

If we see things like Cleopatra (1917), The Great Gatsby (1926), Beau Sabreur (1928), or Convention City (1933) showing up intermittently in the schedule, then we know TCM is just messing with us.

OK I've duplicated the issue -
(clear the cache)
go to daily schedule
use calendar drop down at top to go to Nov 30
then use right arrow at bottom twice to see Dec 2
- will show Desert Song
(clear the cache)
go to daily schedule
use calendar drop down right arrow to go to December, then click on Dec 2
- no Desert Song
I think I've seen such discrepancies in the past, depending on how you get there.
Weird. Regardless, I think it's too good to be true that Desert Song will be shown, but I will happily be proven wrong.
-
I'm in the U.S. - notice the American flag is hilighted in red below, so I don't know what's going on.
I believe I saw this changeover early this afternoon.
Maybe try clearing the browser cache?

This is what I'm seeing for the daily schedule -

-
The daily schedule has now been updated to match the order of films shown in the monthly schedule, with The Desert Song removed.

As a big fan of the Sherlock Holmes stories and Rathbone as an actor in general, when I first saw the later films I was disappointed that they had updated and "Americanized" the plots to tie into current events. Of course that was during World War II so who am I to say if a more faithful adaptation of a Holmes story would be popular with audiences of the time.

Oh God, ICE STATION ZEBRA...
I will take out a small loan and pay anyone willing to spill a Mountain Dew on the negative a $5,000 fee.
I-S-Z has become something of a go-to movie for TCM whenever they need a Rock Hudson - Ernest Borgnine - Patrick McGoohan - what the heck it's Saturday afternoon programming block.

-
Perhaps this would be more appropriate for "That's a weird car," but this was included in the Deanna Durbin 1941 film Nice Girl? that was shown on TCM Sunday night.

-
The Now Playing magazine for November lists the daytime theme for tomorrow, the 22nd, as 'Rock Hudson birthday' movies. I couldn't for the life of me figure out how these movies related until I did a wikipedia lookup and discovered that Rock was actually born on November 17. Turns out the daytime themes listed for the 17th and the 22nd are switched. The Rock Hudson movies (Ice Station Zebra, Giant, etc.) were shown on the 17th, and daytime on the 22nd features 'co-starring Sam Levine' and 'George Hamilton' films which was listed for Rock's day. A small thing but hey that's one of the reasons I subscribe - I enjoy the challenge of trying to figure out what the programmers are up to. (I know, I need to get a life.)
BTW, has anyone received the December Now Playing yet? I haven't received mine so I'm starting to think it was lost...
-
I also noticed this a while ago - if you scroll back far enough there's an entry on October 20 that mentions the change. It sounds like they have retained the same authors but the articles are now done as part of the new Filmstruck streaming service.
As part of the change, it seems that the articles are now written for 'generic' film topics, and do not have a direct connection to upcoming movies on TCM, as was often the case in the past. A disappointing development if true.

It appears that Amazon has a paperback book - DVD item for the film.
(The Italian title of the film is 'voce umana' - produced in 2014.)
There isn't much description or feedback on the product so I have some reservations about mentioning it, but it may be OK. (Would like to make sure that the book listed comes with a DVD, the DVD will play in North American players, and has English subtitles.) The book itself looks like it is Italian-only, so buyer beware.
Here is the IMDB listing for the film if you want to keep looking

Another disappointment is that TCM is showing a 1.33:1 pan & scan version of the film that lops off much of what the director intended, as explained in their famous letterbox short. The TCM theatrical aspect ratio page for the film lists it at 2.35:1, so that tells you there's quite a bit that's missing.
A big shame since this was one of the main movies featured for the Pearl Harbor anniversary tribute.
