I know. A quickie divorce, so to speak. Usually there's money involved (insurance or inheritance) or money they don't want to spend (divorce/shild support). Some of the crimes are so stupid and pointless. Then the survivors are left to deal with it all forever...
Yeah, she probably didn't get good tips. But she seemed to have a side business going on.......
Well at least you don't have to pay a divorce attorney. I believe she had some kind of insurance,
but still. You feel sorry for someone who died that young just because she married the wrong kind
of guy.
Yes, there are hints in some of her back and forth with Raft that she has a side gig, one where
she wouldn't have to declare her earnings. Wink, wink.

I've always thought of Babbitt as the early creme de la creme of dissecting the American
middle class and pointing out it idiocies and follies and rank materialism. And all done with
some humor. As I recall, at the end of the book there is some possibility of change for
George F. No doubt Lewis' literary reputation has declined over the last forty years or
so, but I still enjoy the his novels. I don't know if I'd call Babbitt a forgotten book, but
it's probably not as well known as it was in the past.

LOL. Yeah, she was fun. Yeah, most nights they repeat the 3 primetime hours starting at 11pm. Buy you have to check as sometimes they don't always repeat all 3. I often will watch them later on wknds if there's something else on I want to watch.
She must have been one heck of a cleaning woman because she sure didn't survive on her
personality. Sometimes ID will switch in the late night repeats, but most of the time they
follow the prime time lineup. I watched that episode of American Monster where the nerdy
looking girl married the harmless looking guy and then he shot her in the head and claimed
it was an accident. Why not just divorce her? That happens all the time in these shows.

Hey, I saw a promo for Fear Thy Neighbor this wknd. It starts next Saturday! Maybe the 3 eppys was just a preview!
Based on ID's past doings, I'll believe it when I see it, though I will tune in. One good
thing about ID is that they usually repeat the prime time shows later in the night, so if
something else is on in prime time one can still watch the ID show later in the evening.
Lynn Bari and Virginia Huston are both attractive, but I found that loud mouth maid
sexier.

Pretty entertaining noir with most of the usual boxes checked off. I know Georgie was no great
shakes as an actor, but I usually enjoy his tough guy screen persona. I got a laugh out of how
Raft takes a raft of pictures and manages to find the women in a couple of days. How the heck
did he manage that? Yes, Lynn Bari was attractive and looked good in a swimsuit, but that
million dollar figure seems grossly inflated. I'd go with $250,000. Now if only she was called the
Yoo Hoo girl.

The GNR cover of Live and Let Die is pretty good too.

Shirley Bassey is my favorite singer of all time. But, my favorite Bond theme is You Only Live Twice. Go figure

I was thinking about it for some reason and went back and listened to it. Still pretty good.

The man who played Mr. Wint is the father of character actor Crispin Glover, best known for playing Michael J. Fox's father in the 1985 blockbuster perennial Back to the Future.
The best thing about this film is the song song by Shirley Bassey. WOW!
Didn't know that. I just recognized him from TV. I enjoyed DAF. There is even a little touch of The
Loved One at the beginning of the film. The title song is good, but I like the Goldfinger song better.
Whatever people think of the movie You Only Live Twice, I think the song is very good.

The cheesy 70s gay henchmen really make that movie.
They do provide a nice comic touch to all the killing. I recognized the actor who played
Mr. Wint, as I've seen him in other roles. Mr. Kidd not so much. It would have been fun
to have a tag team wrestling match between them and Bambi and Thumper.

I thought Diamonds Are Forever was pretty good. Maybe not up to the standards of the
early 1960s ones, but pretty close. After five films the James Bond formula of girls, guns,
gadgets, egomaniac villains trying to rule the world had to be getting a little tired. So I
think DAF did okay with that. One just knew that diamond smuggling couldn't be the endgame,
it had to be something much more grand, which it was. How about an 007 name switch--Blow
*** and Oddfeld.
-
That's the main reason I will watch it, and to see how the toupee holds up. I would
think it's not in the class of Goldfinger, but I'm sure it has some good parts in it.

I remember seeing Thunderball and You Only Live Twice in a movie theater. I lost interest in
James Bond after that and haven't watched another one since. I will probably watch Diamonds
Are Forever tonight.

That's one of the marks of a cinema classic.

LAHOMA VANE? LOL! Looks like Fear Thy Neighbor is history. I hought it was odd there were no promos for its return. Maybe they had a few leftover episodes from the last season, so they showed them. Weird!
With that name you can almost guess what the character might be. She was a hoot in that role.
She played a similar type of character in other places, but I don't think she ever outdid Lahoma.
Several nights ago they ran the three episodes from this season, if you can call it a season. That
was a strange end even for ID. I hope it will come back some time in the future.

I always wished Sandy's beau in the film had been Tab Hunter instead of old boring Troy Donahue!
My opinion is you've seen one teen idol you've seen them all, though I do admit that Tab Hunter is
a better name than Troy Donahue.

If we are talking about wooden coat hangers and abortions, I hope no one brings up another clothing item, namely hatpins, and Frank Sinatra's mother who was supposedly known as Hatpin Dolly if I recall correctly, in her neighborhood where there were many wayward women in the same trouble as Carol Lynley.
Loved the part of BD where Brandon's mommy wants to give him the book on you-know-what!I've heard that Ole Blue Eyes' mother was an abortionist though I've never looked very deeply
into the matter. I guess if it's in one of the well-researched biographies it's probably true. I
think Marsha Hunt was playing one of those stereotypical well-meaning mothers who have too
many things to do to follow through.

I believe Q was made for homesick sailors who dream of mommy while they toss
and turn restlessly in their seamen encrusted beds.

There was a huge difference in their ages, but I remember Mac was a good guy and good influence on Rachel and Ada ( Constance Ford) was all for their marriage. Bill Hayes played Doug Williams and his real life wife was Susan Seaforth Hayes who played Julie Williams were on Days of Our Lives. I don't remember sexpot twins and which soap they were on but Deidre Hall who played Dr. Marlena Evans, a psychiatrist, on Days of Our Lives had a real life twin named Andrea Hall and there was a storyline for a long time that had them on the show together.
Couldn't agree more Vautrin, the 2 shows were a lot of fun
Yes he was, though he was a little on the uptight side as I recall. Yes, Williams was the name. I had
forgotten. I also remember Dr. Marlena Evans, one of the best looking psychiatrists ever. With a
little help from the internet I have found the teenage sexpot, though I got the details wrong. She
was one of the Landers' sisters, who were not twins. She appeared on Somerset, the spin off of
Another World, which ran from 1970 to 1976. One of the transplant characters from Another World
was Lahoma Vane, played by Ann Wedgeworth. She was sort of a blue collar semi-vixen who did
and said the most outrageous things, but with a twinkle in her eye. I thought she was one of the
kookiest characters on the NBC soaps, down to her name. Like sand through the hourglass, so
are the days of our lives. Whatever.

Roberta Shore was cute, but Sara Lane, who was in the last few years of The Virginia, was
really sexy. Of course her character was a bit older and more mature than Betsy Garth who
was still kind of a grown up kid.

Constance Ford is in Rome Adventure which I watched a few months ago-- it was so off putting seeing Ford in a role where she was playing someone nice!
Yes. I mostly remember her from TV shows of that time, where at the worse she was really nasty
to the best where she was just misunderstood.

No, Ada's role was bigger than that, she had a wild child Rachel that was always getting into some kind of trouble, mostly with men LOL, till she settled down with super wealthy Mac Corey. I use to love Another World and Days of Our Lives on NBC. I was young then, a teenager. So many famous actors started out on these soaps.
My viewing of the NBC soaps was very irregular. My mom would be watching when I
came home from school. I would watch for a few minutes, make some wisecracks, she
would give me a nasty look and I would head out. I do remember Rachel and Mac (get a
haircut, you freakin' hippie) and could not help notice the vast difference in their ages. I
also remember Bill Hayes and his wife, who were major characters, though I don't recall
their names or the soap they were on. Then there were the twin actresses who
played the teenage sexpots. Can't recall their names either, but all those shows were
always a lot of fun.

That's Constance Ford, she was a terrific character actress. for me her best role was many years on the soap opera Another World.
My mother was a devotee of Another World and the other NBC soaps. From the little I
can remember, Constance Ford was quite often in her kitchen offering advice over a
cup of coffee.

Yeah, true, but it would impact poor women who can't travel. Women with money will find ways to get one.
Yes, it would fall hardest on those who can't afford it, as usual.
I think she was using Roberta Shore in this movie. Maybe as a supporting player, her name
wasn't that prominent in the opening credits.

Madchen in Uniform (1931), remade in 1958. Nothing wrong with some
extra-curricular activities at a girl's school. Then there's These Three
and its remake The Children's Hour. From what I recall, neither of them
made it very clear what was really going on. Teacher, teacher, teach me
love, I can't learn it fast enough.
