  1. They have a "channel" devoted to "super hero news." That says it all.
  2. MARION DAVIES ... PEG O' MY HEART ... MARCH 17
  3. Here's one I slightly colorized. Marion Davies hold balloons while on the deck of the the Oneida.
  4. Here's a link to the original pressbook for Marion Davies' mega-hit When Knighthood Was in Flower. http://archive.org/stream/presssheetsforpa00unse#page/n3/mode/2up
  5. Dunkirk wasn't exactly boring, but it wasn't exciting or emotionally involving either. All the young soldier actors looked alike so I couldn't keep the story straight. Funny how after all that turmoil and angst, all the young soldier actors looked like they had just shaved that very morning! Bottom line: overrated, but not as overrated as Mudbound.
  6. It would smell just as bad as the version with a boy.
  7. Watched Hey Boy! Hey Girl! last night. Not much of a film (it's OK), but Keely Smith is terrific. Her renditions of "Autumn Leaves" and "You Are My Love" are classic. In an era of great female vocalists like Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Lena Horne, Rosemary Clooney, Sarah Vaughan, Jo Stafford, Patti Page, Keely Smith held her own.
  8. To me. it looks like a cosmetic change. Reviews may now be listed by "helpfulness" but that makes as much sense as before, when they were listed in a random pattern.
  9. Never seen it. It looks like drek.

    My New Blog

Probably a little rough at this point, but..... https://silentroomdotblog.wordpress.com/
  11. You seem to have a big problem. Take it elsewhere. No one here is interested.
  12. IMDb is invaluable. I make corrections to the database and it almost always works. Attempted corrections to the TCM and even the AFI database never happen. I almost never use them.
  13. Jane Fonda and Steve McQueen Debbie Reynolds and William Holden Carol Burnett and Woody Allen Joan Crawford and Humphrey Bogart Glenda Jackson and Richard Burton
  14. Jane Fonda and Warren Beatty Gloria Swanson and John Gilbert Marion Davies and John Gilbert (he did a cameo in Show People) Barbra Streisand and Woody Allen Norma Shearer and William Haines
  15. You can only vote once, unless you have multiple accounts and email addresses.
  16. Marlene Dietrich was the one they talked about in 1944 as well.... Those golden legs....
  17. The ratings on IMDb hardly ever make sense to me. They have so many algorithms (if that's the right word) that how they arrive at these number is a total mystery. I remember giving a 10 to a silent short film that had only 5 or 6 votes and its rating number went DOWN.
  18. The River (1951) is one I taped off TCM decades ago. Beautiful Technicolor film about a girl's remembrance of growing up in India in the 1920s, a coming of age tale about life (as it used to be) and death and the river they live on. We see a picture (no politics) about people living together and respecting each other's belief systems even as they struggle with their own beliefs and problems. Every ending is a new beginning. The actor playing Captain John, Thomas Breen, was the son the Joseph Breen, Hollywood's censorship czar from 1934 -1941. The film was based on a book by Rumer Godden.
  19. Certainly not conclusive in any way but very interesting. I didn't know you could even search that way on IMDb.
