I was wondering if someone was going to post about this film. Is this a precursor to "Alien" (1979),minus the "chestburster" scene?
so they say.

how can you go wrong with a winner like this?
when it comes to low-budget late 1950s sci-fi thrillers, marshall thompson is the man!
my siblings and I watched this one all the time when we were kids.
surplus radio electronics and ray 'crash' corrigan in his monster suit works better than lame millennial-catering cgi.

Here are some questions for you...
Why is it so darn important to you that TCM broadcast this film? Is it just because you feel the film deserves to be shown on TCM? Or is it because you just think that everyone else should be able to see it because you feel it is one of the great classics of cinematic history??
Or is this just your regular, normal shtick and we just have to deal with your occassional and rather delusional behavior regarding this film???
Do you own the film???? Did you happen to know that the film is available on DVD?????
Hot Spell
from Zeus DVDs
Hot Spell (1958) Director: Daniel Mann Writers: Lonnie Coleman (novel), James Poe $9.99
If you did not know it was avaiilable on DVD, maybe now is the time for you to buy it, own it, and watch it so you can stop with this persistant clamour for TCM to show it.
well there is this little insert superimposed on the first of six files of hot spell currently posted on youtube. it reads 'FLASHBACKDVD.com' so there is one outlet for ya. why should I buy it if I can grab it somewhere like offa youtube?

I think hot spell is at least as good as god's little acre plus having something on DVD does not necessarily preclude the joy of seeing it on cable.
I can't think of one good reason why tcm shouldn't be showing hot spell. hal wallis-produced and an early shirley macclaine film so why not???

Can't be TOO rare since I remember first seeing it on a late show back when I was 13 or so.
But your point is taken. Makes one wonder if it has anything to do with all that pesky "rights" crap you keep reading about in these forums. I also don't see why whoever holds those "rights" would have against TCM showing it.
Same goes for any fine older "classic" that TCM fails to show at least rarely.
They also don't show CALLING NORTHSIDE 777 as often as I'd like, too. They DO show it, but nowhere near as often as NBNW.

and doan FORGET they just beat us over the head with GWTW again last nite,

I just burned two discs of hot spell made from those six files of hot spell just posted back on youtube, a low bitrate disc for my old dvd player and a high bitrate disc for my TV's dvd player..
besides hot spell on the high bitrate disc on the low bitrate disc I included some video of remote controlled drone footage also got offa youtube. this guy takes his drone up too far and loses control and the batteries give out.
some great above the clouds footage. the drone looses power and plummets back to earth from launch point several miles away. someone found it and he got the video. pretty exciting!

They have shown it in the past, but it's very rarely shown.
if a film is in the mgm library than why should tcm have any difficulty showing it?
-
I'm sure many of us in here can point to some old movie(or not so old, as in HOT SPELL's case) and come up with some self pitying gripe about TCM not showing it.
For me, it's PRESSURE POINT with Sidney Poitier and Bobby Darin. TCM has shown it, but it has been a while.

I doan pity myself for not seeing hot spell ever shown on tcm but rather wonder why such great self-professing devotees of cinema as tcm would ignore such a film as hot spell...
produced by Hal B. Wallis
written by james poe
directed by Daniel Mann
hot spell is certainly entitled to just as much recognition as tcm has given to God's Little Acre.
are tcm slackers such incompetents that they can't even procure a copy of this rare film?

-
TCM won't even show The Fixer which is one of Frankenheimer's best films. It's a MGM British Studio film so they could if they wanted to. TCM UK shows it but not here and it's not on DVD so there is no way to watch it if TCM doesn't have it on. Maybe they can run Hot Spell after The Fixer that would be just dandy for me.
P.S.
I take that back, ...I found it!!!
Dalton Trumbo wrote the screen play.
that's a good point. The Fixer figures prominately in that mgm lion power short that tcm has liked to have shown every so often. we hear about the four seasons of lion power and they list all mgm's upcoming films for '67-'68 including The Fixer which you point out has never been shown. tcm has always liked to paint themselves as these great devotees of cinema but fail to act like it.
so why isn't tcm showing the fixer? I guess you will be as out of line about the fixer as I am about hot spell.
-
Just out of curiosity, why do you think TCM won't show Hot Spell?
I remember them showing it quite regular many, many years ago but then it was suggested to me that it was amc and not tcm and that tcm has never shown hot spell.
it's been so long now I can't be sure anymore if tcm has ever shown it. if tcm did show hot spell it has been something like eleven or twelve years now since it was last seen.

No tribute this year for Claude Rains on the tenth, but they're doing one for KARLOFF on the 23rd. Go figure.
will tcm show the invisible man to pay tribute to claude rains who is that not one of their coffer films.
tcm's coffer inventory is the determining factor.

Yes, the character is Rey and she's played by Daisy Ridley.
our new Lukette Skywalktrix.
maybe she'll even be asexual.

-
tcm claiming the mantle of great cinema devotees and then failing to live up to it. I note this java on the tcm home page that reads " southern writers, 15 movies".
I take it tcm wants to do homage to southern screenwriters...like james poe?
his name figures prominently in the opening credits of...you guessed it...HOT SPELL
tcm gonna show that? no, of course not. will they at least show jack webb in The D.I. another poe-written film? if it's not too much trouble I suppose them yankin' the print outta their coffer.
HOT SPELL among those 15 films?
unthinkable.

notice how pc requires a kickass militant babe to be at the center of the poster like she's the main character. a new supergirl tv series with a black jimmy olsen ain't enough.

I got it! she's the new Lukette Skywalktrix.

-
This is the official theatre movie poster. (not the fan made)
The Stormtrooper in the middle looks like he's been in battle since Episode IV.

notice how pc requires a kickass militant babe to be at the center of the poster like she's the main character or something. a new supergirl tv series with a black jimmy olsen ain't enough.

STOP STOP Spamming us whoever you are
Why are you doing this?
TCM board admin and techies, can't you do anything about it?
SansFin, this is no "fairy". Fairies are supposed to be nice. Even the bad ones are at least interesting. But whoever is doing this to our boards, male or female, one person or many, former or current members or someone from somewhere else, they are not fairy-like.
More like a monster.
whoever, whatever you are
STOP IT YOU'RE DRIVING ME BONKERS ! ! !
I thought from the thread title you were gonna complain about me bringing up hot spell.

hot spell is back on youtube in six parts and a pretty good looking file too. the files I've grabbed in the past had so-so picture quality and a very low audio level. this one has great picture quality and more sound volume. think I'm a-gonna burn two DVD-Rs with this one. a low video bitrate disc that will play on my old DVD player without no freeze-ups and a high bitrate disc for my TVs built-in slot-loading DVD player. a good framerate to work with to, 29.97. so here's an excellent opportunity for yuze guys to grab hot spell and enjoy a film that tcm oughta be showin'.
I always download offa youtube in the mp4 format.
grab 'em, join 'em, encode 'em and then burn 'em. that's the ticket!
save all that dvr jazz for the ploughboys.

Why a version in Spanish using the same script as Lugosi's version?
for spanish audiences?

and I've read the spanish version is better.

Nip: "Mr Osborne?"
Bob: "Yes?"
Nip: "How come turner classic movies never shows the 1958 shirley booth film hot spell?"
Bob: "We wouldn't show that stupid movie even if it was the last movie on the face of the earth."
Nip: "Thank you, Bob, just curious. Ah well, back to Outer Limits."
==
me: "alright for you, Mr. Osborne, but just how is buddy jr. ever gonna get his pizza parlor?"

In case you didn't notice NipkowDisc I lead off my TCM Program Challenge last month with Hot Spell in your honour.
I thought I might scrape one vote by doing so.
It might be in the archive.
I didn't know that, thanks.
you know, it's not just tcm. nobody shows hot spell for some reason.

doan be a sap and push sap.

Crew: "Man overboard!"

tcm discovers the 1958 hal wallis-produced film...what is that called again?...oh yeah!...
HOT SPELL

the passing of fred thompson calls for an ileanna douglas-hosted essentials presentation of martin scorsese's cape fear (1991) which she was in.

I think jessica lange is smokin' in that.

every dvd of hot spell I have I burned myself from files I grabbed. I do have store-bought DVDs like the first season of Gilligan's Island and the 2nd season of The Munsters. I also got a 2-disc Don Knotts collection. one disc has The Ghost and Mr. Chicken and The Reluctant Astronaut and on the 2nd disc The Shakiest Gun in the West and The Love God?
