  1. I have grabbed off VEEHD many a time. that's where I got vistavision formatted files of STRATEGIC AIR COMMAND and TORWARDS THE UNKNOWN. a great site.
  2. that hurricane patricia, the most powerful hurricane ever recorded with 200 mph winds, is targeting the pacific side of mexico right smack into puerto vallarta where john huston shot his night of the iguana. say gah-bye to those remaining set remnants.
  3. it's me again. I know that most of the time I'm just the pointy-headed comic relief around here...and that's alright. I'm no hoy-faloy celluloid-worshipping accolyte. never have been. I'm just a space cadet weaned on 50s and 60s fare. my issues that are important to me like certain films being shown or colorization which should have been given more of a chance have been made light of by many here. but lets be clear. the tact of many a poster here has been to back up tcm. well, your precious tcm has just inhibited your ability to dvr record. nice kumquats huh? well, they're your kumquats. you own 'em. so maybe some of you hoy-faloy tcm classic cruisers should maybe like bring up this record-blocking issue with bob and ben. I wish I could be there to hear what you get in response.
  4. so I told use guys that I was right all along. some cinemaphiles they are inhibiting the ability for use guys to record to dvr. I told ya! lucky is the slob with a vcr on hand. so even if tcm were to finally show hot spell it would only be good for the vcr. knowed it from the first I did! the space cadet always does. so learn to grab offa youtube and file sharing sites like rapidgator.
  5. boistered with enthusiasm over this thread I pulled a disc spindle to find my DVD of the 2012 BFI restoration of Hammer's 1958 Dracula, which I did. checked for torrents and nothing out there and ditto for file sharing so I got out my disc. I could play it in my TV's built-in DVD player but I wanna save that so I avoid wear and tear on that so I will use my aging very edgy old DVD player which is mostly only good for my vcd collection. wanna these days I will have to buy a new DVD player for 30 or 15 dollars but while the old unit works I'm a-gonna use 'er. problem is DVDs have a tendency to freeze while playing so I will re-encode the video to a lower bitrate so it will take up much less space on the disc and maybe won't freeze up at all. so glad I got that restored dracula on hand. with my set-up I can only record from my old DVD player on to vhs. so I'll be a-wantin' to record the restored hammer Dracula on to a tape and get a kick outta watchin' that after tcm shows their inferior americanized horror of dracula print that doan have the complete dracula sunlight disintegration. they found the missing scenes on some japanese prints that had been layin' around over in japan for decades. so thank you BFI. you british guys are tops with me.
  6. it depends what mood I'm in at any given moment in time I'm typing, Dargy, but please notice that I would never type I'm with a lowercase i.
  7. could you mention hot spell and the BFI restoration of hammer studios' dracula?
  8. hot spell is a perfect example of tcm's failure to do right by all classic films. shirley booth only made a handful of films and we have seen come back, little sheba starring her along with burt lancaster shown many times here on tcm but nary a sign of hot spell. and how about tcm trying to get a hold of an englished dubbed copy of carlo ponti's Attila starring anthony quinn and sophia loren! these are the films that tcm oughta be trying to get a hold of. there's no doubt about that.
  9. I say this. before favoring us with non-classic stuff like thelma & louise or the world according to garp, tcm should do right by classic film fans by first showing some of the films I have named.
  10. tcm obviously is willing to cater to 90s, 80s and even 70s counter-culture politically correct film fare. just last nite, sleepless in seattle and a league of their own shown on other cables channels all the time. I doan like it. no sir! I doan like it at all.
  11. I assume in the next few weeks tcm will be breaking out some of their holloween coffer-accessed films like horror of dracula, their inferior americanized cut of hammer's dracula from 1958 without the full count dracula sunlight disintegration. great cinemaphiles huh? if svengoolie could get the BFI restored cut I bet he'd show it!
  12. hollywood family connections are no substitute for real world familiarities meaning genuine old school living room TV space cadetism.
  13. and it wouldn't surprise me if ileanna douglas has not viewed any of these three films even once!
  14. what is a classic movie? a lot of what tcm has utterly failed to procure and show. here are three... 1. the flame barrier (1958) 2. Dracula (1958) 2012 BFI Restoration 3. Hot Spell (1958) all three are classic films unknown to tcm programmers for some undefinable reason.
  15. the only thing I might watch on cozi-tv is my favorite martian.
  16. when someone of christopher lee's stature dies I would want to honor such a giant of horror to the finest possible extent that I could. let me ask you this, jamesjazzguitar, did tcm even THINK about getting a hold of the BFI print of hammer's dracula??? I woulda. so basically what you're arguing to me, jamesjazzguitar, is that I am expecting too much from an outfit like tcm? maybe I am but these are the things that set cinemaphiles apart from other channels. they couldn't have simply procured the restored hammer dracula for just one showing??? I understand the points you're making, jamesjazzguitar, I guess I'm just a stubborn hardcase space cadet.
  17. why should I? tcm's spendthriftness is their own affair and not mine. some tcm rep couldn't have worked up enough enthusiasm to say to the brits "we would like to honor the passing of Mr. Lee with the best possible version of hammer's landmark 1958 film." hell, tcm just shown the grim game with harry houdini the other nite. yeah, with silents they're good.
  18. no, rather it's more important to tcm to let sally field trash Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore with a vincent canby review than to go about getting the right film prints to honor the passing of great film icons.
  19. when the great british horror icon Christopher Lee died why did tcm choose to limit itself to honoring him with our cruddy americanized print which does not have the full dracula sunlight disintegration instead of thinking enough of Christopher Lee to go the extra kilometer and get the 2012 BFI restoration of the 1958 film??? cinemaphiles should, tcm didn't.
  20. you know, jamesjazzguitar, you ARE right! tcm shows an edited americanized print of hammer studios' Dracula (1958) and that certainly is not the complete nor the original form of the 1958 hammer film. in the original british film the title is simply Dracula with an embellished D in the title and the americanized 'horror of dracula' print does not have the full complete disintegration of count dracula after being exposed to sunlight by van helsing. so yes, jamesjazzguitar, tcm does show inferior edited prints of great films. I stand corrected.
  21. so MOVIES! is showing films that they KNOW have been edited beforehand? big difference.
  22. MOVIES! shows this message before the beginning of their films claiming no editing has been done to make room for commercials but it's a dam lie. I know an edited print of Sands of Iwo Jima when I see one. MOVIES! is deliberatly giving the false impression that they are showing a complete film when they are not. that ain't right. even svengoolie doan do that.
  23. I love that taut opening narration "this is a story of tomorrow..or the day after tomorrow... [...]
  24. most lifelong space cadets have been watching that one since we were kids. notice the earth revolving below against shots of 'the wheel'. the special effects guys back then made a big boo-boo. they have the earth revolving in the wrong direction! still it's a great technicolor eye-fest. william redfield is the guy who gets the big steak dinner in the mess.
