  1. the upcoming biggie is gonna be star wars: the force awakens which I have no plans to go see despite harrison ford, mark hamill and carrie fisher. I'm not gonna put up with a lotta useless obligatory millennial kinetics from the younger cast just to see maybe's fifteen minutes of harrison ford an' I hear'd solo gets killed off even. no sir!

    I'll grab it off somewhere's later. :)

  2. From my understanding, as "60 minutes" is taped long before airing, the information about the doubtful validity of the memos came too late to scrub the broadcast.

I suggest therefore, it is NIP's bias that is gumming up the objectivity of this discussion.  but I understand.  I've often found that....

most of them "Bush Blowers" have trouble admitting their mistake.  :D

    Sepiatone

not a fan of bush at all but why did redford wanna star in this for? hey, I personally like dan rather despite his journalistic bias which I just look past and focus on the man's professionalism and I doan blame robert redford for liking dan rather so much that he would wanna rehabilitate his image with this film but truth cannot be manufactured where there is none. rather and mapes took the bait and they got burned. bush ain't to blame for that. :D

  3. CBS fired "60 Minutes II" producer Mary Mapes (the Cate Blanchett character) and pushed Rather into retirement after the "Memogate" fiasco in 2004. Needless to say, CBS is a bit antsy about how the Tiffany Network has been portrayed in "Truth." So it has refused to run ads for the movie. And it doesn't end there. I watched "CBS Sunday Morning" yesterday and they had Los Angeles Times critic Kenneth Turan talk about upcoming films. Guess which one wasn't even mentioned?

Here's a Forbes magazine piece about the controversy:

As for "Memogate," here's the Wikipedia entry on the issue:

maybe cbs oughta sue redford.

  4. Probably, I'm the last classic movie fan that found out about MediaHistoryProject.org. This site has copies of a lot of old movie related magazines . They also have magazines dedicated to radio & photography. It's a fascinating website. If you haven't seen it or didn't know about it, please check it out.

    castle of frankenstein? :D

  5.

I am awaiting tribute to very versatile director: Alan Smithee!

His range of styles and genres is amazing for one person.

Death of a Gunfighter (1969) is straight-up western.

Gypsy Angels (1980) has Vanna White as stripper who falls for a stunt pilot who develops amnesia after a crash.

Appointment with Fear (1985) is horroric twice-fold as that is its genre and is most people's opinion of it.

    Let's Get Harry (1986) is action-adventure.

doan forget The Guardian with jenny seagrove as a hot wiccan babe. :D

  6. like I said, tcm has never shown the restored 2012 BFI print of Hammer's Dracula...

    slacker 'cinemaphiles'!

tcm coulda shown the restored BFI print of Dracula (1958) to greatly honor the passing of horror icon Christopher Lee...but they didn't. I personally think a giant like Chris Lee deserved nothing less than the best presentations of his film contributions

are tcm competent cinemaphiles or aren't they? show the best!

  7. TCM is proud (usually justifiable) to show movies in their "original, uncut" version. tonight, they are showing The First of the Few (1942) which they say is 119 minutes long. that, apparently, is the British version, because some sources say the movie (aka Spitfire) is 88 minutes long, which is the US running time at its release.

however, sometimes TCM shows movies in reverse order. they show the US version of Night of the Demon (1957) which is shorter than the original British release (82 US, 95 UK).

these movies involve edits to make them have different running times.

The Third Man (1949) has two different versions, US and UK (Joseph Cotten narration, Trevor Howard Narration). TCM shows the UK version.

Horror of Dracula (1958), just Dracula in the UK, has different US and UK times.

so which one(s) is TCM supposed to be showing? does "original" mean its world premiere showing, or its US premier? its "road show" version, or its first run version?

    which is which?

like I said, tcm has never shown the restored 2012 BFI print of Hammer's Dracula...

    slacker 'cinemaphiles'!

  8. Being one of my favorite movies of all time, due to being a die-hard Herb...oops I mean Jason Evers fan I never miss this one when shown even though I own both tape and dvd versions.

I did enjoy watching in a rather similar vein, "Corruption" with Peter Cushing, which was shown the other night. I think in one fighting scene he almost lost his toupee.

how do you where a toupee around the groper?

  9. Stephen -- I've screen shot your recent post and will check out those videos later.

Nipkow -- The thing in the closet bit off a piece of the Doc's neck with intent to eat it, but he didn't like the taste, so he spit it out. "Things" sometimes have very discerning palates!

I bet the thing from the closet doan like melted cheese on his pizza either. :D
