  1. Note that TCM does not edit out scenes.   Instead they lease movies and the movies they lease may be edited version (i.e. versions different than the so called 'original' version).   Also note that some movies have multiple 'original' versions.   e.g.  there are US releases verses European releases,   pre-code films that were re-released after the production code came into effect,  so called 'director cuts',    version for various parts of the USA (e.g. versions for the South that were different than what was shown in other parts of the USA),  etc....

yes, but shouldn't tcm have enough sense to be aware that they've gotten a hold of an edited print and upon realizing this choose not to show it? suppose they aired a heavily dubbed print of dog day afternoon and nobody watched it. :)

if tcm does not edit films for a reason (uh...artistic integrity?) then why would they air a chopped up print for no reason other than laziness?

  2. TCM's answer to "Benjamin Button"!

As the character Andy Hardy doesn't seem to age over the years of the franchise, the order they're shown in really doesn't matter all that much, does it?

Or do y'all always feel the need to b!tch about something?  ;)

    Sepiatone

should the old planet of the apes movies be shown any ol' way? :P

  3. so there is no way tcm could show ice station zebra or 2001: a space odyssey in the same way they have smileboxed how the west was won?

I be not a technician so I hafta ask elementary questions...

but if they can do it...

    well sir...

    I wanna see it. :)

  4. months ago close encounters of the third kind had been on youtube but it was removed. a good one too! the special edition director's cut. tcm has shown a version with neary's hilarious outdoor shrubbery nutso routine but without the moorcroft, wyoming huckster who is seen saying to a crowd "you're all going to be real sorry if you don't have one of these early warning systems like a gas mask. why even my dog has a gas mask and anyone of you is worth more than a dog." and he's got a gas mask on his hound dog. I wouldn't waste my time on any cut of close encounters that didn't have that hllarious dog with a gas mask scene. anyways I was going through stuff on my external usb hard drive and I came across that file now long gone from youtube. think I'll give it a good dvd treatment. :)

  5. No not kinda dumb. Lily worked hard at that job in Paris, she was determined to prove that she could and wasn't just  going to look for another rich man to hook. Trentholm recognized that in Lily, respected her for it and saw a fuller picture of the real Lily. Too bad you can't. Lily changed, she was capable of love Too bad you can't see or understand this story. I still say stick with what you know and enjoy The Creature From the Black Lagoon and other sci-fi films :)

"maybe you're right." -rooster cogburn :)

  6. Did you or did you not see the ending of the film? Brent didn't plug himself just because of Lily. Charges were being brought against him because of the bank troubles and he had no way to cover the money without Lily's help. He certainly didn't want to face prison.IT WASN'T JUST BECAUSE HE THOUGHT LILY DIDN'T LOVE HIM. Given Lily's background and her determination to never be poor again that was going to be her knee jerk reaction. When she thought it over on the ship, she realized that she loved Trenthom more than her jewels, bonds and cash. She also understood that all the other men she had, loved her for her body. Trentholm really loved her, not just for the s-e-x and that they had a real relationship.

Yeah, I did watch the whole film and the impression I got is when lily sits in on the board meeting with trenthorn. trenthorn knows exactly what she is, a very opportunistic strumpet so when he shows up later in paris and gets involved with her seems kinda dumb. I mean should trenthorn have really been surprised at her unwillingness to give up her acquired wealth she worked so hard to get? :)

  7. I love that ending. the sphere goes supercritical and the psycho-bimbo gets it. being a space cadet and not a nuclear physicist I would say the sphere is fissile material kept from going critical by the box which is shielding...

and I also think wesley addy looks like anderson cooper.

what is that sphere?....super-compressed radium! :)

  8. You really outta stick to sci-fi, and stay away from pre-codes and romances. She certainly did love him. Making the decision to keep her 1/2 million at first was an anguished one for Lily. Didn't you watch her facial expressions? SHE LOVED HIM and that's what made her do the turn around on the ship. The Creature From The Black Lagoon (a movie you have said many times you love) is much more your speed :D

I'm just sayin' young duke was a lucky guy here. she loved Brent, terrific but he still plugged himself. tom powers' brother shoots some poor guy then himself and she just stands there taking it in. such a creature could not love anyone and she seems most aware of her indifference. :)

    Topbilled's pick for tomorrow:

    screen-shot-2015-04-20-at-9-09-15-am.png

    Where: TCM.

    Last aired: May 2014.

Reason to watch: One of three collaborations for Eleanor Parker & Robert Taylor. And one of MGM's more carefully presented biopics.

I always watch it whenever it is shown. one of Taylor's best films. He gives a sincere heartfelt performance as Tibbets. :)

  10.

Robert Bray puts in a passable portrayal as Mike Hammer he's Hammer-esgue but again here is a case where the action is moved to California and the talent to make an acceptable Noir-ish stylized Mike Hammer film is noticeably lacking, it looks made on the cheap, it plays like a TV film and is nowhere near Aldrich's film noir masterpiece.  The broads Whitney Blake, Patricia Donahue, Pamela Duncan, prostitute Jan Chaney, and stripper Genie Coree  are again "hammer-tommically" correct but again as in both "I The Jury" (1953),  and "Kiss Me Deadly" (1955) the slightly gratuitous sexuality which should be a touchstone in any Mike Hammer based film is PG-13 if even that.  To put it bluntly the hammer babes (save for Velda) peel for Mike at every opportunity. Another big faux pas in hammer-city is where is the Colt .45 automatic ?, Bray runs around with what looks like a .38 special a popgun in comparison, come on right from the get-go with the scene in the lunch counter you know its gonna be off. Still a 7/10

I think I like him better as Ranger Cory on lassie. :)

  11. I like the end when the radioactive sphere goes supercritical and the blonde homicidal bimbo gets incinerated along with the rest of the beach house. the sound effects make it kinda scary. after the bimbo opens the box you doan wanna be anywhere around that place...

    a real hot box. :)

  12. For years, only in recent days its gotten horribly worse, watching movies on the TCM channel is like trying to watch very badly scratched DVD discs. Very constant pixilation, freezes, sound goes out, stop, start, stop, start, skips, etc. EVERY single second throughout the movie. See attached pictures. This is just a small example what I'm seeing while trying to watch DOA.

I have cable tv, not satellite. And its only on the TCM channel where this is happening. All my other channels do not have this problem.attachicon.gif20150419_122623-1.jpgattachicon.gif20150419_125013-1.jpg

a pixillated public domain chestnut. :)

  13. so here I am enjoying a hearty sunday breakfast of pepperidge farm chocolate goldfish crackers and a mug of milk watching the last half hour of You Can't Take It With You. after the movie is over and they got some break time so what does tcm do? they take a few minutes to throw accolades at Sophia Loren and I'm naturally thinkin' to myself here's Anthony Quinn SOTM and they're throwin' accolades at Sophia Loren...

so why doan they show Attila?...

the 1954 italian peplum effort from Carlo Ponti, dino de laurentis with Quinn in the title role and a young steaming hot Sophia Loren in her ancient babe regalia?

answer: because that would make sense. an obvious divergence between on-air hype and actual programming. even I a space cadet can see this. :)

  14. obviously, their fixed film catalog and it's accompanying rotation. they got their catalog and dam it, they're gonna stick with it come hell or high water. a course....

their real problem is their stubborn inability to appreciate that the vast majority of cable viewers in the u.s. and Canada aren't their festival cruise passengers. :D

to summerize, doan look for the uk cut of William Cameron Menzies' invaders from mars anytime real soon. :)

we all got a better chance of being mooned by a mutant.
