  1. it's movies like ALL THAT JAZZ (1979) when actor Roy Scheider who had an exceptional hero persona on screen let audiences down.

after Jaws 2 which was salvaged by Roy's excellent reprise of Chief Martin Brody his only good film afterwards comes in 1983 with Blue Thunder.

his career sputters to an end with steven spielberg's TV garbage SeaQuest DSV with it's excellent 1st season music by underrated John Debney.

In general I like the later episodes more than the earlier ones. The latter are sometimes kind of sappy,

though many are still funny. One of my favorites scenes was in an episode where Beaver buys an

accordion on the installment plan without telling his parents. When he can't pay, a man from the

company comes to the front door and talks with Ward. Ward keeps insisting no one ordered an

accordion and becomes quite heated on the subject. Just then an accordion comes loudly bouncing down

    the stairs. Oh brother.

    ward...it's an accordion!

My favorite "Leave It to Beaver" episode was when their parents went away for the weekend and left Wally in charge of the Beav.

I love the part where Wally's cooking hamburgers and drops one on the floor and says that one's for Beaver.

But what really sold me on the episode as a kid was how Beaver ran the bathtub over. I was always running things over in the bathroom. I became Infamous for it and got into a lot of trouble on more than one occasion.

It was really cool to see a kid on TV who had the same problem as me. It made me feel as if I wasn't alone in this singular behavior.

Does anybody else remember that episode?

it's called I believe 'Beaver takes a bath'...

who serves peas with hamburgers on a roll?

  4. I always liked William Hopper. he was kinda Peter Graves-ish. he got pushed into acting by his mother Hedda Hopper so he wasn't too ambitious. stalwart and wooden in his performances but that's why we liked him. his hair became prematurely white from the standup guy he had been as a navy frogman setting underwater demolitions in WWII.

mantises and ymirs, this guy'll take um on.

I remember when I first saw the deadly mantis as a kid enjoying very much the tutorial about our early warning defense system the Dew Line.

however, having a defrosted giant prehistoric praying mantis clomping around in the snow in a frigid environment makes absolutely no sense to me.

I will watch it as it is one of my favorite universal-international favorites. I think William Hopper's character's name is Professor Nedrick Young.. to me the deadly mantis represents the apex of Hopper's acting career. I've always preferred this to twenty million miles to earth. I wish that such a good actor as William Hopper had not ended his career playing 2nd banana to Raymond Burr on perry mason. in fact Hopper was supposed to play mason before they gave the role to Burr.
